If you’re on disability TikTok (literally I hope you’re doing ok if you are LOL) then you probably know the drama that is happening on it.
Lemme just say this, there will ALWAYS be someone that is more disabled than you. And that isn’t a bad thing to say. I have mutuals who are full time power wheelchair users. I have mutuals who are high support needs. I have mutuals that are more disabled than me and I acknowledge that because there are people who are severely disabled and more disabled than me and that is OK!!!
Acknowledging that there are severely disabled people and that there are people with more severe disabilities than you isn’t a bad thing. It is life. No one is “At the same level of disability”. Some people are just more disabled and thats ok to say.
I’m a wheelchair and forearm crutch user almost full time. I can acknowledge that my friend with cerebral palsy whos a full time wheelchair user and eye-gaze AAC user is more disabled than me. I can acknowledge that my disabilities are more severe than most of my classmates. I can acknowledge those things and it’s all correct!
No one is at the same level of disability. There are people that are more disabled and thats ok and a conversation that needs to be had. Because the second we start trying to put everyone on the same level, the more people that will die from lack of care and access.
Crazy idea:
If you don’t like neurodivergent kids, don’t become a teacher.
For this next trick, I'm going to spell a word so badly not even I can tell what it's supposed to be :)
i just think it's bullshit that alternative meats, milks, eggs, breads, and other foods are prohibitively expensive. like i don't know how to tell people that not everyone who eats vegan or vegetarian is choosing to eat that way because of their moral beliefs- a lot of people are eating these foods because they have food allergies or intolerances, or have other gastrointestinal issues
i don't have a choice. it's downright cruel to make these different options more expensive. there is no one size fits all diet- every single person needs a unique diet and some folks literally have no choice but to utilize these substitutes. some vegetarians cant digest soy. some vegetarians can't eat beans. i also don't know how to tell you that not every vegetarian or vegan can ingest raw vegetables and fruits, or even cooked ones, for that matter
there are a LOT of health conditions like irritable bowel syndrome, gastroparesis, crohns disease, and other gastrointestinal issues that can cause a person to become very sick or even die if they ingest too much raw plant matter, especially vegetables high in fiber. when these fibers cannot be broken down by a person's digestive system, they can form blockages in the intestines and kill people. not every person on this planet benefits from eating a lot of leafy greans. some people are allergic to chlorophyll. some people are allergic to citric acid. diabetic people have to be careful with certain vegetables and fruits causing spikes or dips in blood sugar, and many people with diabetes end up with gastroparesis, or similar gut issues. there are a lot of reasons why people can't just switch to a diet of salads and fruit smoothies every day.
alternative foods need to be available to everyone, regardless of how much income they make. having safer alternative foods should not be relegated to the rich. these are not just being consumed by spiritual white moms on instagram. these foods need to be accessed by disabled people all over the world.

The Disability Library
I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.
And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!
As always, if there are any at all that you want me to add, please just say. I'm always looking for more!
Edit 20/10/2023: You can now suggest books using the google form at the bottom!

People with psychotic disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with personality disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with substance abuse disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with tic disorders are neurodivergent too.
People with bipolar disorder are neurodivergent too.
People with dissociative disorders are neurodivergent too.
Neurodivergence isn’t just ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression. (Plus those last two also get left out sometimes!) Neurodivergence is anything that affects your brain.
“Neurodivergent people hate loud noises” is actually just as valid as a statement as “neurodivergent people have delusions,” “neurodivergent people have tics,” or even “neurodivergent people have low empathy.”
“Since you’re asexual then you’re also neurodivergent” not everyone fits into the same box, but you definitely choose the right one
Miss Me With That Eugenics Bullshit
I need people to understand that, yes, what RFK jr. said about autism yesterday was absolute and utter bullshit...
However, what folks ALSO need to understand is this: even those points which he was correct about - that there really are folks who have such profound disabilities that "They'll never pay taxes, they'll never hold a job, they'll never play baseball, they'll never write a poem, they'll never go out on a date. Many of them will never use a toilet unassisted," - that those individuals are STILL PEOPLE WITH WORTH AND WHO DESERVE HUMAN RIGHTS AND RESPECT.
Human beings do not need to be useful or productive to deserve human rights. To say otherwise is pure eugenics. Full fucking stop.
So be careful about how you respond to his bullshit... because while what he described does NOT reflect reality for the largest percentage of individuals on the Autism Spectrum, even the folks that his comments DO realistically describe are human beings who do not deserve to be hit with the, "But Not Everyone Is Like That!" Because some really are, and even so, they STILL deserve respect, consideration, and not to be shit on like that.
me when the disability disables me: oh what the fuck? this sucks. what the hell man!

As someone who is somewhat of a “veteran” of the online ND community, I’m disappointed in the lack of positivity and love for lesser known diverse cognitive conditions, and the opposing abundance of posts about “cures” or outdated criteria or treatments for those conditions. So, without further ado, I want to say hello to anyone with any of the disorders I’m listing, and give them the love and support that hardly anyone else in our community has… Shoutout to:
People with Down syndrome
People with Fragile X
People with William’s syndrome
People with dyslexia
People with dyspraxia
People with dyscalculia
People with dysgraphia
People with Prader-Willi syndrome
People with PANS or PANDAS
People with aphasia
People with a TBI (traumatic brain injury)
People with chronic/early onset mental illnesses
People with cerebral palsy
People with FASD or were otherwise disabled via other substances in utero
And many, many more I may have forgotten to list (but still support and love, I will add more to my list)
You are all beautiful and wonderful, and you all deserve so more love, appreciation, acceptance and support. You are just as neurodiverse as the rest of us, and your voices deserve to be heard and amplified.
I love you all ❤️

Happy International Women's Day. Trans Women ARE Real Women.
On this year women's day, all we could think about are Palestinian women in Gaza.
Nearly 9,000 women have been killed in Israeli attacks in five months. Another 2,100 are missing and presumed dead, while 23,000 have been wounded and over half a million are displaced.
“Palestinian women, especially in the Gaza Strip, are exposed to the worst humanitarian catastrophe,” Ashraf al-Qudra, the health ministry’s spokesperson, said on Thursday.
Dozens of women and girls have also been detained and face harsh conditions in Israeli custody, including sexual abuse.
Women in Gaza also struggle to find menstruation products and access the necessary pregnancy and post-natal care. The consequences on reproductive health, including a rise in stress-induced miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births, have increased significantly.
Women in labour are undergoing caesarean procedures without anaesthetics, and a shortage of post-operative care such as medication, antibiotics and pain relief further exacerbates the situation.
According to the health ministry, 5,000 women give birth monthly in Gaza under “harsh, unsafe and unhealthy” conditions caused by Israeli bombing and displacement.
There are 60,000 pregnant women in Gaza suffering from “malnutrition, dehydration and lack of medical care.
There have also been repeated cases of Israeli soldiers mocking Palestinian women by posting videos and pictures of themselves rummaging through personal belongings in Gaza homes, making derogatory comments and posing with women’s underwear.

when reproductive justice activists told us that overturning roe was just the beginning, this is what they meant. The ruling from Alabama is an outrageous violation of bodily autonomy.
