submitting poetry? rights and royalties?

hey everyone, i’ve been writing poetry for years now but i’ve never submitted any of my work or shared it among anyone other than my close friends lol. however, i believe i’ve grown enough as a person and a poet to start getting my work published.

the thing is, i’m not entirely sure how the legal side of that works. if i were to submit my poetry to the poetry foundation, for example, and they paid me $500 for one of my poems, do they now own that poem? can i not send it anywhere else or make money off of it or even call it mine? i don’t write poetry for the money, i write for myself and others like me, so it’s really important to me that i maintain the rights to my work.

if anyone knows any publications i can submit my work to while maintaining the rights to my writing, i would be very thankful!

any other advice is also welcome

give me more stories with a trans guy as the main character. give me a action movie where the hero has to take his shirt off bc he got hurt and we see his top surgery scars right in front of us. give me a sitcom where the trans guy talks openly about his period without him being laughed at. give me a drama where the main guy is a father and the story shows how his kid grew up while his dad went through hrt and turned from being a mom to a dad, without it implying that the trans dad is less a man bc he gave birth. give me a romcom where the main love interest is a trans guy. give me horror where the main guy has to face his abusive past from transphobic family members by fighting monsters, and winning through blood and sweat. give me a happy old trans man who lived through decades and survived despite the many tragedies. give me a young nervous trans man who just started to explore his identity and get support from older queer folk. give me trans men from different time period and countries and how their identity would be shaped there. give me more trans men. give them a happy ending.

The Republicans sneaked in other terrifying provisions. Like one that would potentially make court orders unenforceable against this administration. A huge blow to what remains of checks and balances.

Tell your republican senators to vote no for the love of god. Tell them you know what's buried in that bill and you'll hold them responsible for the end of democracy in the u.s.

Ask your democratic senators to show some leadership in stopping this and making sure the American public hears about it.

H.R.1 aka the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” that will BAN ALL ALL GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE from medicaid specifically for transgender people BUT NOT cisgender people has passed in the house a few days ago. the next step is senate. LOOK UP YOUR SENATORS AND CALL THEM. tell them you will not only not vote for them, but that you will do everything that is legally in your power to prevent them from EVER HOLDING A POSITION IN THE SENATE AGAIN.

this bill also aims to make MASSIVE cuts to obamacare and SNAP. not only that, but they’re making it even more expensive to immigrate and SEEK ASYLUM in america.

even though this last one is not one of the biggest problems, they’re also trying to prohibit states from placing regulations on AI for TEN YEARS. who knows how advanced AI could get in that amount of time?? how many JOBS COULD BE LOST???

there’s so much more this bill is trying to do, but i don’t want to put it all in one post bc i’m afraid people won’t take the time to read it. PLEASE, CALL YOUR SENATORS. "red-pill" is from a movie created by two trans women and is a metaphor for estrogen and gender transitioning. those same women adapted V For Vendetta from the original comic (written by a polyamorous man who may or may not be queer but certainly has something going on); in both versions the titular protagonist "V" is implied to be transmasculine, and a survivor of torture and imprisonment for the crime of homosexuality.

because that's what they see in us, these bigots who are happy to consume and quote and corrupt queer-created media, as long as they can erase every beautiful root. they see criminals, commiting the crime of being queer. and they are doing their damnedest to bring back the laws that made it so.
