Yeah this is one of the few changes I’m not as happy about. It was still very clear in the manga why and how he protected her while also creating a massive impact in the wall to emphasize how hard he hit it. The slide into the wall instead is less impactful to me, and I think they could’ve found a mix between the two have him cuddle her as he slammed into the wall like in the manga.
