Rest in peace Gerry Conway, a legendary comic book writer and editor who worked on the Amazing Spider-Man, House of Mystery, the Tomb of Dracula, Batman, Justice League of America, Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man and many more.

He was the creator of the Punisher, Power Girl, Firestorm, Killer Croc, Jason Todd, Carol Danvers, and Spider-Man's clone, Ben Reilly.

He was also known for writing one of the most iconic (and darkest) Spider-Man stories in the comic book history, the Death of Gwen Stacy and the Green Goblin's Last Sand.

Nimoy also directed films, including Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), and Three Men and a Baby (1987), and appeared in several films, television shows, and voice acted in several video games. Outside of acting, Nimoy was a film director, photographer, author, singer, and songwriter.

Erich Van Daniken the so called father of the ancient astronaut theory died today. During my teenage years I read a number of his books. Assuming he wasn’t a con man which is a lot Van Daniken seems to have believed in a kind of atheistic creationism where creationism was the act human like alien beings. Van Daniken once claimed that the aliens which created humanity and represented all gods were genetically identical to modern humans which I suppose makes his beliefs an extreme form of humanism. Whether you believe what he wrote or not we lost a very interesting and influential writer today.

I've had this open in my tabs for some days, and it remains one of my very favorite title sequences. (And as it was almost certainly written by my buddy David Gerrold, even more a favorite because of that.)

The gorgeous circular "traveling mattes" will never not be a favorite of mine. They were a delightful way to evoke the slightly-retro quality of the IP and the storyline.

And particularly: Look at the shot they chose for Gil Gerard's title credit. THAT SLOW SMILE, OMG. :)
