This is one of those Arizona experiences that hits you in the chest before you even start walking. The quiet out there feels different, like the land itself is asking you to slow down and remember.

This memorial trail was built to honor the 19 firefighters who died in the Yarnell Hill Fire, and that truth stays with you the whole way. The route climbs through rugged desert terrain to a lookout, then continues to the fatality site, with signs along the way that make the story feel heartbreakingly real.

I honestly think it is one of the most important state parks we have. Not because it is easy or pretty in the usual way, but because it says something deep about courage, sacrifice, and that Arizona never forgets.

From 1937, missing aviator Amelia Earhart is shown in the cockpit of her Lockheed Electra 10E, the aircraft in which she attempted her "Flight Around the World" beginning May 20, 1937.

For almost 90 years, her fate has been an open question that has eluded a definitive answer. In April, 2026 (next month!) a team of researchers will travel to Nikumaroro, a small island in Kiribati to follow up on evidence that the Electra 10E is "The Taraia Object" seen in satellite images.
