Katara arrives in Republic City to attend the wedding of the current Avatar, Korra, to Asami Sato. A wedding being presided over by the former Fire Lord, Zuko. As time pulls harder and harder upon ninety year old bones, Katara realizes the veneer of contentment masks a depressing truth - that her dreams every night of a life unlived, a life with him, even in the mundanity of politics were preferable to what she had instead endured.

The pair will have a difficult choice to make, however, when confronted with the spirits that their younger self had come to embody - and in one case made real.

Is 'fine' good enough? Or is it worth it to go around again for the sake of something better?

and like no, this is just me being hyperfixated as hell and finally letting myself write them after twenty years.

Zuko seeks out Kya's burial site during the middle of a blizzard. The Fire Lord desperately needs to have an important conversation with her, and he thinks it can't wait.

Since Kya's already been invoked anyway, she makes sure to leave everyone with closure long-denied.
