If it wasn’t already set in stone that Katara got with Aang, think of how interesting the conflict would have been if Aang’s love interest was either Toph or Azula. Tagah hated the Earth Kingdom because of what they did to Air Nomads of his time, he also started to hate the Fire Nation because he learned that they committed mass genocide against the Air Nomads. Think of how he would have felt if he woke up to find the only other Air Nomad was romantically involved with either a woman of the people who persecuted his people during his time or the Princess of the nation who slaughtered his people during Aang’s time. But no we have to have Aang be with Katara.
