the golden glove (2019)

watched with @freeuselandonorris! 🖤 a weird and very unglamorous, violent and grotty film. everything and everyone is ugly and real and has a touch of the royston vasey about it. i was sold this being completely deplorable, and don’t get me wrong it was horrible in parts but it wasn’t that bad. it lost me a bit in the middle and then it just Ends very abruptly which was a shame. also there’s not nearly enough gloves in it

a snake of june (2002)

one of my favourite watches of the month (june! i swear that wasn’t even on purpose) so damp and close and blue and just stunning!! absolutely fantastic images that i will be thinking about for a long time

if you want 95 minutes of anthony wong looking crazed and covered in blood i couldn’t recommend this one enough! absolutely insane, so horribly violent and unrelenting. herman yau does not shy away from showing shocking things on screen! unrelated i’m making pork buns does anyone want some

watched as a double bill introduced by reece :) i say introduced like he didn’t stand on stage and old man ramble about both films for 2 minutes and then get grumpy when nobody had seen them. i liked them both! the ending of el televisor had me gagged

tales from the crypt (1972)

i’m making it my mission to watch more horror anthologies bc i really do enjoy them. as is always the case i enjoyed some stories more than others, the last one being my favourite by far (gave me some la terreur vibes, iykyk)

creepshow (1982)

see above. fittingly watched on father’s day and i really loved this!! those tom savini sfx are to die for, a very stylish and cool film that i’m very surprised took me so long to watch! throughout the film i was plagued by visions of an itty bitty reece doing his drawings and making the comic book :((

manhunter (1986)

william l. petersen looks like the cowardly lion which made it quite hard to take him serious as will graham. i really enjoyed this though, brian cox (not that one) is a fantastic hannibal and his brief screentime makes him that much more unsettling. this film reminded me i need to finish nbc hannibal and finally watch silence of the lambs

i want you back (2022)

watched with @silverview! 💖 i’ve been watching a looooot of horror this month and this was exactly the kind of low-stakes, cutesy and fun romcom i needed. everyone in this film is adorable and it has a such a sweet ending. more films should have a suddenly seymour musical break and charlie day being the cutest little sweetie pee you’ve ever seen

toy story (1995) 🔄

we found a 35mm scan of this film which is the technology it was intended to be watched on, and it looked absolutely fantastic. not to suck disney off too much but the writing in this film still holds up really well and made me very nostalgic. i love toys!!

the silence of the lambs (1991)

i had an itch to watch to watch lots of films in a day and this was my first of four, at about 10am. good god what a film!!! i can’t believe it’s taken me this long to see it. i had to cover my eyes for the moth scenes but apart from that this has top 4 potential

hospital massacre (1981)

also known as x-ray, but hospital massacre is objectively a funnier and more accurate title. it was interesting but i can’t say i really enjoyed it, which is a shame. the hunt for good hospital horror continues. (it’s probably no surprise to anyone that i watched this with a glint in my eye. lots of putting on and taking off of slick clear latex gloves, a good syringe bit, heartbeat listening…)

nightmares in a damaged brain (1981)

another watch with @freeuselandonorris! sleazy and vile with some of the goriest sfx i’ve ever seen! i can absolutely see why this is on the final 39 video nasties list

nowhere (1997) 🔄

every now and then i rewatch one of gregg araki’s films to check they’re still some of my favourite films ever made. they are. i was born to be a gregg araki character, i want a stupid name and for james duvall to be my friend

baby assassins 2 (2023)

fun! i think i liked this more than the first film. the girls are so cute together and they got to kill their male counterparts this time <3 yay <3

toy story 2 (1999) 🔄

i can admit this still makes me cry. i’m sorry to all the toys i ever threw away or thought i had to outgrow :(

final destination (2000)

we got access to hbo max and they have all the final destination films so i’ve decided to watch them because they’re films i’ve always been aware of in the 00s horror zeitgeist but never actually sat down to watch. i really enjoyed it! the pecker poster, into the void being on the soundtrack, a character named clear waters, all made me smile so much. clear waters.

final destination 2 (2003)

enjoyed this less than the original but i did enjoy the fakeouts and ‘will-it-won’t-it’ of the death setups rather than every death being guaranteed. the initial premonition is so gnarly i never want to go on the motorway again

final destination 3 (2006)

i loved this. it’s the most 2006 film i’ve ever seen. i found it very funny that the events of 1 get mentioned a lot but there’s no mention of any of the events of 2. jaw dropped when i saw kris lemche as ian mckinley. the weird cartoony cgi has an appeal too. great film that has put me off rollercoasters for life. it was about this film that i realised they really were making the same film over and over again

jackass number two (2006) 🔄

took a break from the final destinations to watch some jackass. it is quite nice that for 90 minutes i can watch some guys hurting themselves for my pleasure entertainment :) the anaconda ball pit is pure pornography. i want to do unspeakable things to and with johnny knoxville

final destination 5 (2011)

redemption!! i really liked this one after the absolute tripe of the final destination. the deaths were fantastically gory and the ending was great, 1, 2 and 5 would be the perfect trilogy!

(annoyingly i don’t have access to final destination: bloodlines just yet so i can’t wrap up the month with it booooo)
