It was so perfect I hated it (iykyk). Holly Jackson, what a QUEEN, this series was art on a screen, I was sobbing so hard at the end of E6.

I had my issues with S1, which I personally gave a mental rating of 8/10. I think it was incredible in terms of a standalone itself, without considering the book, but I feel the script did lack some of the defining details and characterisation (Andie Bell, they will never make me like you). At times the script diverted from the book (understandable, of course), it just felt wrong, like that arse plot line between Pip’s mum and stepdad. I guess all this makes sense since Holly wasn’t as involved in S1 as she was in S2.

And my god, this shows.

S2 was 100/10 for me, especially when it’s based on a book as complex as Good Girl, Bad Blood. Emma’s British accent (while admirable in S1, it did sometimes distract me/break my focus when watching) was top-notch in S2. I think I only had one defining case/word where the American accent was fully clear, but it otherwise was so, so good. And bloody hell, her ACTING. The emotion, the trauma (sobbing), the SPIRAL that is so obvious in the book from following her POV was demonstrated impeccably on the screen. It was like The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (with Snow’s POV), except AGGGTM TV actually hit the mark with presenting these thought processes with the perfect balance and the nuances that don’t just directly give the audience the answer. You could physically FEEL how much darker and sadder S2 was compared to S1. (This made all the BTS pictures so much funnier because they’re all so goofy.)

The character dynamics between Pip with Ravi, Connor and the others (AND THE FREAKING BOOK QUOTES LIKE RAVI-SHING AND REAL MEN WEAR FLORAL) had me kicking my feet and laughing. Pipravi <3333333

I wish they villainised Lauren more though, because flipping hell, I was ready to deck that girl in the books, but here she was more like an annoying fly. Robin Hastings was a new character (might I just say, casting director, give them a gold-looking silver award after SotR’s), and usually I hate stuff like this, but they did a decent job (his attitude towards Pip was very confusing/back and forth at times, though, without clear reason, but I did see the vision of where they had merged his character with Ant’s — again, stupid S1 erasing his character and creating problems).

Max. Max FUCKING Hastings. The actor did such an amazing job at making me want to wring his neck and shove it into the backside of a donkey (the poor donkey). Even though I knew what was coming from reading the books, I still had the same amount of visceral fury when the verdict came through, and that’s how you know it’s good. Max is the perfect character to despise, and I definitely will use his face when I’m playing badminton in future.

Stanley, they will never make me hate you, sweetheart 🥺 I’d already seen Misia act in KAOS, so when they announced him for this, I was so excited because the vibes were on-point. It’s just a shame that (and Holly said this herself) she had to change his job role because S1 didn’t introduce him.

The actor for Jamie and Charlie, too?? ABSOLUTE PERFECTION FOR HOW I VISUALISED THEM. And repeated honourable mentions for Dan and Nat because they’re so accurate, too. I’ll say it again, award the freaking casting directors. 😌

Soundtrack, ESPECIALLY when Labour played as Pip went to visit Becca, was chef’s kiss. Argue with a wall.

Finally. The easter eggs. The murder mystery party (Kill Joy), the CD in Max’s den, the newspaper with duct tape, the hammer and blue rope in Green Scene, Cara’s ‘hide a body’ line, the constant ‘who will look for you when you’re the one who disappears?’. Full. Body. Chills.

I am dreading S3 because I know that I will be absolutely ripped apart with the way things are going. Perhaps preemptive therapy is needed. Or maybe a reread of the entire series :)
