CHAOS, CHAOS!

Noelle is a Red Mage.

For those who aren't aware, Red Mage is a Job (Also called/known as a class, in most other RPGs) within the Final Fantasy series, dating back to the original Final Fantasy. Within Final Fantasy, magic is mainly split into two categories- White Magic and Black Magic. (There's sometimes also Blue Magic, and Summoning Magic is also usually a separate thing, but those aren't relevant to this.) White Magic is primarily used by White Mages, but some spells are also used by Paladins; Black Magic is primarily used by Black Mages, but some spells are also used by Ninjas. Red Mages, however, are a sort of in-between mage; while Black Mages specialize in Black Magic, but cannot use any others, and White Mages similarly specialize in White Magic, Red Mages specialize in neither. They can use many, but not all, White and Black Magic spells, and are also notably proficient with swords, though not to the level of the Knight/Paladin. In summary, they are a sort of "Jack of All Trades" class, being decent at everything, but not the best at any one thing.

Now how does this apply to Noelle? Well, let's look at what she can do.

Noelle has three primary spells available to cast- IceShock, SleepMist, and HealPrayer. HealPrayer and SleepMist are definitively White Magic, directly paralleling existing Final Fantasy spells like Sleep/Repose and Cure, and also being used by Ralsei, who aligns with the White Mage perfectly. Conversely, IceShock parallels the Blizzard spells of Final Fantasy, which are consistently fundamental Black Magic spells throughout the series. And perhaps most notably of all, Noelle is able to equip two of Kris' weapons- the JingleBlade and the BlackShard. She cannot equip all of Kris' weapons, only a limited few- she isn't as proficient in physical attacks as the party's Knight/Paladin, but she is more capable of performing them than other mages (Ralsei).
