My dad lived in Florida in his 20s and so every year after I was born we would all go down to Florida and hang out with his old friends and we always did it around the time the bioluminescent phytoplankton was at its peak so until I was about 6 I just thought that ocean water glowed

I think that’s why I’m so obsessed with bioluminescence and why I loved that avatar movie so much because like I grew up thinking that’s how the world was like and that bioluminescence was so much more common than it actually is and UGH bioluminescence is so pretty I wanna be bioluminescent

Good news! Humans are, in fact, faintly bioluminescent. The glow is too faint to be seen by the naked human eye, but I hope that knowing it's there makes you feel just a little better.

Yeah but that’s just blackbody radiation that’s no funnn plus it’s not technically bioluminescence but rather infrared radiation

ok new research goal: using a gene gun, genetically modify human skin to be bioluminescent by taking on GFP. Can it be done??? probably not.
