Nothing. Just Shidou Kyoichi hanging out with some (ex-) main villain.
This blonde kid is weirder than I initially thought...
Kyoichi looks so short next to koei lolll, and then Gabu the chaos gremlin looking shocked for the first time
Kyoichi the lilliput
At least there's literal 10 year olds around him so he could be the taller person🤣🤣 but seriously, he looks so delicate without helmet-and-cape outfit and his feisty personality didn't quite help; it just makes him cuter when standing next to a bigger guy like Koei or Arthur
He's just a short king and his irrational fear of birds is actually so hilarious🤣🤣🤣
And THIS BABY leads the idaten team not only once but TWICE. Everyone respects him (and the plot loves to bully him).
Sometimes i feel like the author bullied kyoichi and undermines taiga's abilities on purpose(i just want taiga to have an idaten bike)
If IJ was aired today, Taiga would be called a bum or fraud like Fushiguro :" poor boy
“a scientist will see a mouse and say put that beast in a situation” ok a fanfic writer will see a blorbo and say put that man in a situation
@bluvioletbird @angietaraisback AHAHAHAHA
I love traumatizing my OC's for some reason and I do end up feeling bad for them but I never change it lol
I'm intrigued... Let's exchange OC stories sometimes ok?👌
Lan Qiren was not expecting having to deal with the bane of his existence twice in this lifetime lol

Any sci-fi media: the spaceship is a character
Me: OMG THE SPACESHIP IS A CHARACTER
I find it funny that this guy, a ninja, has less petty communication issue than a certain middle schooler. The only misunderstanding is when he refused to explain to Sho why did he cheat, and when Ayumu accused him. He's as blunt as Kyoichi but his intentions were more transparent, and I love him for that.
LOL no wonder he earned Taiga’s respect, the most straightforward out of all straightforward people ever 😭
^ ngl there were a few times where I was like why are you telling them that dude is so honest 😭
Tbh Koei’s bluntness is one of the fun things about his character, he doesn’t beat around the bush, like “if I have a problem with you then I’m gonna tell you in your face!”
But seriously, what kind of shinobi skills did they even teach him 😭
Even when they were infiltrating the X-team place to save Makoto and Gabu he went out of his way to wear a disguise only to PPSSSHHHHTT! Put them all to sleep 😭
And I’m like.. you’re a ninja you can probably sneak in there and stick yourself to walls or something?! No?! 😭
He's one of the most impatient fictional ninja I know HAHAH
He's straightforward but also tricky & quite unpredictable in battle, oh the duality of Koei the Ninja Rider... He also likes to do some brutal technique BUT also used the same technique to help people.
Omg... he's the tired young adult equivalent of Sho Yamato
Tbh I think this is one of those cases where the anime writers weren’t sure what do with him at first..
He was cruel and stayed cruel in the manga, and seeing how he acted the first time he showed up, maybe they intended to keep that characterization..
But then decided like nah he’s an Idaten bike rider gotta make him good!
So they suddenly made him respectful and doesn’t like to cheat, even though he literally interrupted Sho and Kyoichi’s battle, didn’t dven go to win but tried to crush them instead, crushed Kyoichi, but didn’t take his emblem! Is he being respectful again here like “I didn’t win in an official battle so I’m not gonna take the emblem, I crushed you because I had to!” Kind of way? But then he decided to have an actual battle without interruptions with Sho, then what was that with Kyoichi before? 😭
They then introduced his sister just to reinforce that he’s a good guy forced into the bad guy act idea 😭
Tbh He has to be the most chaotic character in this anime, you know what he’s thinking because he usually says it, but then you don’t really know what he’s thinking?
WAIT THERE'S A MANGA??
My god he sounds like a monster when you describe it... maybe you're right, but I think it can be rationalized as "he's also a teen and Team ST's bad influence made him a monster".
Tbf he didn't target Sho after Kyoichi crashed him out of the course, so maybe Koei feels like "well you want to fight against me ALONE, so don't feel too confident" and decided to go full Asshole Mode
In TV Tropes term this is called "Characterization Marches On", where a character intro is wildly different than their later characterization
LMAO YES!!
The Manga is completely different from the anime though..
I found a Japanese Website that summerized what happened in every volume, along side some of the things I knew from the Japanese wikipedia page..
The biggest difference is that there’s no isekai aspects!
The entire world they live in is pretty much like X-zone in the anime, where they can use superpowers and control everything with MTB..
If I remember right, Takeshi had a team (can’t remember its name) I don’t remember what happened to them but they were like.. the biggest team in X-Zone, which is just an area in their world (not a different world), then something happened and Team Shark Tooth took over, Gabu was the leader, Taiga was an evil bastard who cheated in his battles and got kicked from the team because Gabu didn’t expect him to be a cheater 😭
It’s like they flipped Gabu and Taiga’s personalities!
Koei was a part of Team ST, and of course he was also an evil bastard 😭
There are more details that I forgot, but I’ll leave the website here:
https://mangapedia.com/IDATEN翔-h7lskcy9l
IDATEN翔の解説。読みは「いだてんじゃんぷ」。藤原としひろの代表作。MTB(マウンテンバイク)を愛する少年、山登翔が、シャークトゥースとの戦いを繰り広げながらMTBの聖地といわれたXゾーンを取り戻し、リーダーとして成長していく姿を描く。「コミックボンボン」2004年4月号から
Ohhhh so it's more like yugioh then...
Tbh I dont think I would consider the manga is the "correct version" because I already enjoy the anime characterization. WHAT DO YOU MEAN TAIGA WAS CHEATING???
Ikrrrrr?!!
I 100% prefer the anime for how they handled Gabu’s character development!
I can’t really judge the manga without reading it but clearly they didn’t have that 😭
I honestly believe the anime staff elevated the story with their changes!
NOW I WANT AN OVA FOR THE X-ZONE TRIO (Yuki, Koei, Arthur) WITH KYOICHI WHO WAS TRAPPED. I NEED THEIR STORY 😭😭
HONESTLY WE NEED MORE ARTHUR AND YUKI AS A CHARACTER AND NOT AS PLOT DEVICE. THE SAMEJIMA BROS TOO. ALSO KYOICHI; I NEED TO KNOW HIS FEELINGS WHEN SEPARATED AGAIN FROM MAKOTO.
I need another season.. with all the things that we never got to see..
The Samejima brothers’ parents for example!!
Literally I’m here making headcanons and even made AI pictures of how their parents would look like 😭
I need to know what kind of childhood they had!
But also? I kinda like that I don’t know so I can analyze and make my own conclusions 😭
A while ago I had a dream where we got season 2 😭
And I got to see a few scenes of it, most likely a climax of an arc where they’re at X-zone again and Taiga, and the other older riders like Koei and arthur, and probably Kyoichi too? Were being mind-controled by a villain, causing them to attack the other younger riders like Gabu, Sho, and Makoto (Ayumu and Kakeru were still around probably but I don’t remember the details)
It’s quite a big deal to Gabu cause his brother who’s only been nice to him, is showing him a face he’s never and will never show him, cruelty!
So Gabu has to fight to bring his brother back..
But what I remember clearly is the moment everyone’s back to normal, they’re all celebrating, and in the corner there were Taiga and Gabu, Taiga was probably thanking Gabu for bringing him back to normal, while holding back tears, Gabu couldn’t hold it anymore, so he hugged Taiga with tears in his eyes, so Taiga hugged him back, smiling but also with tears in his eyes!
This scene is a big deal cause we’ve never seen them crying nor hugging in the actual anime!
I already know why I had this dream LOL, cause Taiga being controled and turned EVIL is a scenario I thought about, I wanted to make an AU out if it, so my brain was like okay how about we make this real and fulfill your wish by making it happen on screen!?
What I love about that last scene is that it didn’t revolve around just these two, cause the other riders were happy celebrating and thanking everyone for bringing them back, which gave space for these two to be intimate without caring about anyone looking!
BRO YOUR DREAM... YOU DREAMED A WHOLE PLOT AND STILL REMEMBER THE IMPORTANT POINTS. AND IT'S IJ SEASON 2. I ENVY YOU.
Even in dreams Kyoichi abd Taiga couldn't catch a break 🤣🤣 so it's a fusion of some "What If"s and the plot of the second part of the story?
OH MY HEART SAMEJIMA BROS CRYING I WANT TO SEE IT 😭😭😭 WHY IS YOUR DREAM PLOT SO SWEET
Yeesss! LOL!!
You can tell what kind of stuff I think about all the time, that my subconcious finally decided it’s worth dreaming about! 😭
I LOOOVVVE plots where someone gets mind controled and ends up hurting their loved ones, it created all kinds of drama that I LIVE FOR!!
I kinda got that with Kyoichi in the last arc in the anime!
But you know why this would be a delicious plot for the Samejimas?
Because Gabu was willingly acting evil, ended up hurting Taiga, Taiga didn’t blame him at all, and I bet Gabu didn’t apologize either!
So if Taiga never got mad shile concious, then he will take revenge while being mind-controled!
And because Gabu changed you know he will regret everything!
He has to face his guilt and his brother’s cruelty and it’ll HURRRRTT AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
Then when Taiga goes back to normal he’ll be tormented by guilt as well “I can’t believe I hurt you!”
But then Gabu cries “No! I deserved that!”
Then they all cry AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!
THEY CRY, I CRY, WE ALL CRODE
THIS IS SOO DELICIOUS OMG I HONESTLY CANT IMAGINE GABU BEING HEARTBROKEN BUT I BET IT'S AWESOME (and painful)
This is also in line with the recurring plot points of IJ. If you wanted or desired something for yourself, even if it's positive, you'd be punished. Takeshi wanted to see his family again and ended up doomed his homeworld, Makoto wanted to go home and ended up separated AGAIN from Kyoichi, Sho missed his father and they became enemies, the older brother trio (Kyoichi, Koei, Taiga) wanted to protect their younger siblings and paid the heavy price for it.
YESSSS THAT’S WHY IT’S DELICIOUS!!
It’s the gap of Gabu being always tough, but then ends up doing something vulnerable, because it’s not like him it means a lot when he does it 😭
Oh wow!
This is an interesting theme, nothing goes the way you want it to basically!
It also a reminder that even though it was a fiction, the characters still prone to screw up like real person would. Even Kyoichi, who almost always shown as a mature person, actually did some blunders and tied with Takeshi for "who inadvertently doomed X-Zone the most" category.
So I think the start of this dream tragedy was "Taiga wanted to help or something but screwed up real bad".
This just shows how well-written it is..
Many people could look at it and dismiss it as a “Children Anime” but once you actually watch it with intent, these characters are handled with a lot of care!
Even good people, or protagonists can make mistakes, can hurt people, because they are all “people” at the end of the day, of course they make mistakes!
And what’s also great is that there’s no actual “villain”, and not in the all villains turn good or get redeemed at the end, there is always a reason and a story for why they ended up doing what they do!
YESSSSSSSSSSS ignoring that it was kinda too Sho-centric, slightly rushed its finale, and didn't show us some of important backstories & interactions (only hints) //SLAPPED
The best villain is a redheaded 5th grader brat and he was soooo enjoyable to watch <3 I'm glad he isn't "suddenly turned good", he's still an asshole, even Arthur still angry at him, but his development WORTH THE WAIT
LOL Protagonist previlige!
Tbh even other well-written stories end up making their stories protagonist centric in a way, like the protagonist has to be the one to defeat the main villain, they don’t let somebody do it, One Piece might be a good example of that, I guess it’s a Shounen trope..
I agree that it was rushed with its finale!
Seriously we could have had less traveling monster of the week episodic stuff and gave more time to the final arc 😭
The lack of backstories is in that weird middle, the characters are all well-written, their personalities usually stays consistent, you still get attached without knowing their backstories, and the anime gives enough hints for us the fans to draw our own conclusions..
BUT STILL! I REALLY WANTED TO SEE SOME BACKSTORIES!!!
It’s like, I wish I got more content, but I’m also having fun making my own backstories in my head because I don’t have official ones!
There’s always that fun when you try to find the missing piece!
HAHA yeah sometimes, but I also enjoyed the story where it was the protagonist's TEAM who defeated the strongest villain (like in Kamen Rider Gavv, theres' TRIPLE RIDER KICK AND IT WAS AWESOME).
YES, the fun part of fangirling the protagonist-centric story is scraping for hints for other characters. Pattern recognization, comparing with similar character/story, catching plot points even when it was misanimated or just the writers thinking "yeah this conflict would make the story more interesting even thought it contradicts some elements"...
(in Kamen Rider Gavv, ironically, the one I was scraping for hints was the protagonist himself X"D he was like the blorbo gremlin of his own series)
THAT'S WWHY I ENJOYED IJ WELL INTO ADULTHOOD, THE CHARACTERS ARE SOOOOO LOVABLE AND THE HINTS ARE DELICIOUS
Yeah it’s definitely more fun when they BREAK the trope!
Like when the whole team fights and defeats the antagonist, or when each one of the characters in the team fights when their specialty works best..
Tbh I don’t remember seeing the trope broken a lot, but I remember in Monogatari where the protagonists asked a former villain of another arc to defeat the current antagonist of the arc, he did, without the protagonists’ interferring!
It was one of my favorite arcs because they elevated that character from just a random villain in one arc into such an enjoyable and compelling character 😭
IJ is also break some of the tropes with Kyoichi and Takeshi
Character like Kyoichi commonly becomes the hero's rival. He's young but rational, blunt, sassy, and kind of cold. But rather than bitter rival (he IS a rival, but in different flavor), Kyoichi became Sho's mentor and surrogate brother, and he's actually kindhearted, sensible, imperfect (he can still misjudged people and situation), not overly arrogant (his ((what seemed to be)) arrogance only used as motivation for Sho), a not-really-aloof big bro, barely has resentment for anyone, and never blamed anyone for his own screwups.
Almost every shonen has at least one dead or deadbeat dad who was busy with works or was evil. Takeshi never wanted to be a deadbeat dad or an evil one, but he ended up as one against his will. When he tried to go back to earth it became the start of chaos, but he didn't die. He ended up getting his happy ending.
Edited: ALSO KOEI, THE MOST STRAIGHTFORWARD NINJA IN X-ZONE HAHAHAHAHA
I find it funny that this guy, a ninja, has less petty communication issue than a certain middle schooler. The only misunderstanding is when he refused to explain to Sho why did he cheat, and when Ayumu accused him. He's as blunt as Kyoichi but his intentions were more transparent, and I love him for that.

YOU'RE SO RIGHT I am quite character oriented so if I want to analyze the story I'd analyze the characters first.
Breaking/subverting the tropes is quite common, but it still depends on the writers' ability to make it enjoyable or at least makes sense after second time watch (at least in my opinion). The random villain became some sort of savior? DAYUMMM they must be a really cool character
