I love Robocop so much, I think a lot about one of the core premises being what makes a human a human, but I rarely see anyone talk about how much of Murphy is really left in Robocop, and how it can be argued over how much of Murphy actually remains.

I always interpreted it as Robocop using the name and past identity as a form of retaining his own autonomy past OCP, but aside from memories, muscle memory, and prevailing morals, Robocop is a different entity from Alex Murphy, or more complicated, a facet of Murphy that’s now estranged from who Murphy was at his core due to the endured trauma on the body and mind (and the programming ofc). But Robocop now uses Murphy’s name in a way to almost honor and uphold his memory, while still living in a way that would do right by Alex Murphy and his family.

I love strattland but I don't really ship it in a romantic sense, I do think their relationship transcends that and instead they're constantly reaching out for someone who is always out of reach. Simultaneously disliking and finding comfort in the other in a way they've never experienced before and never will again. They've put each other on a pedestal and will be the same exact person who pushes over and breaks the statue.
