have you ever thought/drawn how blitzen and hearthstones families looked like when they were kids?

Istg I get teary eyed whenever I draw these guys as kids

Yeah I find it easier to cut out where the light hits instead of drawing shadows everywhere so I start with making a multiply layer and normally use a greyish blue (though it really depends on light source and overall vibe of the piece) to color in the whole thing. Then I use an eraser on low opacity to lightly erase where the light is generally hitting

Then I spend some time more clearly erasing where the light is hitting the most. I also go back with the original coloring tool to draw shadows back in.

Then I make another multiply layer and choose a slightly darker color to go over places to dark for the original to show up

Then I normally make a layer like soft light to airbrush lightly over with the light source over everything (I do do a lot of messing around with layer types to see what I like best)

Then it’s just messing around until you’re happy and adding finishing details

Two creatures of different species must leave their homeworlds behind. They meet and bond after overcoming a language barrier and the fact that one can’t use a sense that the other depends on. I’m just saying that if the four of them ever met, they’d really get along. The indomitable power of a duo made up of a blond man and a small guy who’s also a rock. Anyway, sorry for the huge paragraph. You’re ridiculously talented and have improved so much as an artist since I first came across your account. Seeing your art always makes me smile. This is actually the most insanely smart thing I’ve read all week, holy cow I never thought of all that but also the first thing I drew when I got back after seeing PHM the first time was a blitzstone sketch based on the “I’ll watch you sleep pal, but you gotta wake up” soo 👎
