BLACK LIVES STILL MATTER STOP ASIAN HATE

Brittney Griner is a queer black woman who is a basketball superstar and a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ and Black issues. Because the WNBA is bullshit and restricts the amount of money players can be paid (and a whole bunch of other things, like WNBA teams aren’t supposed to use chartered flights to get to games because it’s an “unfair advantage”), she and many other top WNBA stars play in Russian leagues during the US off season, because Russia pays female basketball players a shitton more.

Other WNBA stars got out of Russia before they invaded Ukraine. Griner was detained at the border because, Russia says, they found hashish oil in her airport bag. Now, I have no idea whether that’s the case, and I don’t care, but it’s for damn sure she’s not going to get fair treatment by the Russian legal system even by the abysmally low standards that are their norms.
