Being asexual and racist is embarassing as fuck. Being racist at all is obviously embarassing as fuck but the amount of racism and especially antiblackness i have been seeing from asexuals recently is obscene.
One of the only asexual activists is Yasmin Benoit, a Black woman. She has raised so much awareness for the community. She was the first asexual person to lead Pride in London, she started the #thisiswhatasexuallookslike movement and is THE leading voice for the community.
And you all will celebrate international asexuality day on April 6th but we wouldn't even have that if she hadn't cofounded it.

i dont have like. a well-worded or fully developed way to say this, but i feel like (often white) people in the jrwi fandom (and really. any fandom) see non-white racial identity as an accessory to a character and not something that informs both the metatextual analysis of their arc and the story overall, as well as how you perceive and talk about the character. ESPECIALLY when it comes to headcanons.
for example, Lizzie's identity as a Black Woman (and honestly, if we wanna go farther, a Lesbian) cannot be removed from the context of the story. it's integral to how we the audience understand her character and how she interacts with the world. it's more impactful to her arc as a revolutionary.
conversely, if you were to say that it's your personal headcanon that both sides of Jay's family are Indigenous Native American*, there's a bit of a discomfort there with saying that her paternal side of the family, the one actively engaged in military oppression, colonization, and fascism, is Indigenous Native American. there's not any deeper thought other than throwing the racial identity onto her.
*also as a native person stop hc characters as "native" please specify a tribe we are NOT a monolith and idk if ur talking about her like she's Choctaw or Cherokee or Ojibwe or Navajo or WHAT! be specific
