Does anyone remember that poll where the majority of people on here said they wouldn't date their 16th cousin? I'd like to put what a 16th cousin is into perspective. A 16th cousin is somebody you share a set of 15th great grandparents with. You have 2^17 15th great grandparents. That's 131072 people, which is about the population of Guam or Seychelles. You probably already have some duplicates in the 15th great grandparent line. If you still feel this is too close a relation to date, it's going to require a lot of genealogy work to ensure you have no overlapping ancestors from 500 years ago (yes, 17 generations is 500 years ago). That's all.
