βArtistβ is not an occupationβitβs an honorific title. All humans are creators in some capacity, whether whistling during housework, doodling in classroom notebooks, or making memes about the dayβs celebrity foibles. β¦ But only a gifted few will combine their creativity with enough expertise to ever produce anything that earns admiration from others. β¦ As various writers have expressed, the social position of the artist in contemporary society is akin to that of a βpriest or a sorcererββa βvisionary geniusβ with βextravagant individualismβ who reaches βepiphaniesβ through a βmagical processβ of creation.β
Hedging β¦ is taboo for the true artist, who must stay detached from any status concerns. Only hacks make art for money and power. This explains why artists so often deny any conscious motivations for their workβincluding the desire to make art in the first place. β¦ But nearly every artist pursues a specific kind of status: artist status. Unless society considers a creator to be an βartist,β his or her artworks wonβt receive serious consideration, interpretation, or evaluation.Β

I feel like a very important part of worldbuilding for any universe with a magic system is asking yourself βhow would people use this to do crime?β

it's a weird emotion when somebody goes "doesn't this just shake you to your core and rewrite your dna and change who you are as a person" and your honest experience of it was that it was ok
This may sound stupid but. How do you even begin to look for new tiny frogs???
The alt is a thing of beauty and a joy forever, yβall.
I don't want to put the user on blast but I just saw a "you're never too old to start" post about the Artemis II astronauts, and, respectfully, they are astronauts on our first trip back to the moon since Apollo because their entire lives have been building up to it. Christina, the youngest on the crew, wanted to be an astronaut since childhood, has two bachelor's degrees, and has been involved with NASA since 2001, well before she joined as an astronaut. Jeremy joined the Canadian equivalent to Civil Air Patrol at 12 and did his undergrad in space science. Reid started out as a Navy pilot in the late 1990s. Victor went to a public Ivy, has three master's degrees, and became a Navy test pilot 20 years ago. These people's whole lives have been building up to this.
We are not yet at the point in human space travel where you can just up and career change to being a working astronaut* unless you already are very well-established in a closely relevant career (like medicine), or you're part of a specialty program training mission specialists (like Christa McAuliffe was).

Perhaps a better message, if we insist on mining on here, is, "it's normal for people who are experts in their fields to be middle-aged, actually"
i hate that inactivity decays things. just stay the same until i get back!!!!!!!!!

"Grocery store tulips. Empty coffee cup in the sink. Morning sky smeared pink, like the inside of a salmon.
I have been lonely in so many cities and now I am lonely in absence of the city, the crowd at the Met that made me small and whole as a seed.
How do other people pray?"
