OKAY SO THE METAMORPH AU. also known as the heart of chaos au but since there's already a Sonic AU using that tag on Tumblr, gotta go with the other name.
AU Summary: When they were young, Sonic and his siblings, Sonia and Manic, were inseparable. But it's been twelve years since then - and now, out of the blue, Tails receives a letter from Manic, inviting him to Mobotropolis in thanks for saving the world. With Trip the Sungazer receiving a similar letter from Sonia, it quickly turns into a group outing to meet Sonic's family, even roping in Team Dark. With a mystery afoot regarding the sudden disappearance of a Chaos Emerald, and enemies old and new gathering to try and take down the crown, will the reunited royals be able to keep the peace? Or will secrets long buried in memory come to light?
(Also, there's a villain teamup between Starline, Infinite, and Metal Sonic.)

Cast and Characters:
HEROES
Sonic: The legendary and heroic Blue Blur himself. Eldest of the royal Hedgehog triplets, he left Mobotropolis twelve years ago to see the world, and hasn't returned home since. Has memory issues from his time on the Starfall Islands.
Tails: Sonic's adoptive younger brother, this gadgeteer genius is the world's foremost flying kitsune - whether by plane or by namesake! His inventions can even track down the elusive Chaos Emeralds.
Knuckles: Guardian of the Master Emerald, last of the Echidna warriors, treasure hunter, archaeologist, and lover of grapes, he takes pride in being the physical powerhouse of Team Sonic. He defends his friends.
Sonia: The middle child and only girl of the royal Hedgehog triplets, she's a powerhouse keyboardist with an observant eye and a knack for making the plans. Used to hate getting dirty, but can put up with it now. She also enjoys origami.
Manic: Youngest of the royal Hedgehog triplets, he's a pickpocket with the tallest of tales to tell. A jack of all trades powers-wise, he's well practiced in teleportation and can use his drums to shake the earth and summon plant life.
Trip: A Sungazer from the mystical North Star Island where the Chaos Emeralds reveal their hidden powers. She's a bit timid, but she's grown in confidence by leaps and bounds since first meeting Sonic and co. Has the power to breathe fire and summon phantom wings of chaos energy.
Gemerl: Formerly Emerl, a Gizoid from 4000 years ago, reprogrammed with an artificial soul on the Space Colony ARK, and then rebuilt after Emerl's destruction. Can copy others' abilities.
Shadow: The Ultimate Lifeform, created on the Space Colony ARK 50 years ago using hedgehog and Black Arms DNA in search for the secrets of immortality. He tried to take revenge on the planet for taking away his sister Maria; now he lives for her memory, working for GUN as a member of Team Dark.
Aleena: Mother of the royal triplets, queen, singer, and... time traveler?! As a teen, she was sucked into the future events of Sonic Forces by the Phantom Ruby, and helped the Resistance take back the planet. She's had to give up her children and separate to keep them safe in the past, but she would do anything for them. Truly anything.
Rouge: A jewel thief working for GUN as part of Team Dark alongside Shadow and E-123 Omega, she knows the history of plenty of mystical artifacts and gems. All the better to steal them, in her eyes.
Amy: Reader of futures, wielder of hammers, she is the flower whose petals blow in the breeze - which is hopeless romantic speak to say she's in a relationship with Sonic. Turns out loyalty, friendship, and kicking lots of badnik butt pays off for the Power of Love!
Cream: A gentle-natured young rabbit who's probably the bravest of all. She may be scared at times, but she never lets that get in the way. She's still a total momma's girl though. Took in Gemerl after the Gizoid was repaired, which Gemerl is grateful for.
Oracle of Delphius: A mysterious and legendary being of unknown origins. Though he seems Mobian, it's unknown - and perhaps unknowable - what kind, or if he even is as Mobian as he looks. It's even been speculated that he may be immortal.
?? ??????: An associate of Tails's with a wealth of knowledge and experience. Is on the run from the Eggman Empire, hiding from its ever-watchful surveillance. Would rather not risk getting mind controlled, thank you. His two daughters both adore him.
VILLAINS
The Eggman Empire: An ever-watchful surveillance state that exists to serve one being, and one being only.
Dr. Starline: A genius IQ hypnotist who once idolized Dr. Eggman, this platypus has a cruel streak the size of the moon, matching his ego. Seeks to rule over the world as its villain and the mastermind behind its heroes - if he can get rid of Sonic.
Infinite: Former leader of the mercenary Jackal Squad before Shadow the Hedgehog wiped them off the map. As the only survivor, he was equipped with the powerful Phantom Ruby, a gem that can fool anything up to time itself. He seeks revenge against those who have wronged him.
Metal Sonic: A robotic Sonic made by Dr. Eggman's hand. Once nearly indistinguishable from the original in temperament, but increasing hatred, serving the Eggman Empire for a decade, and desire to prove itself as the Real Sonic have warped its mind and logic. It seeks to roboticize all living beings.
Crash and Circus: Metal Sonic's loyal (if slightly bumbling) robotic allies. First appeared shortly after the Neo Metal incident, though hardly a threat; they appear to now have similar nanotech-based upgrades themselves.
