CIRCUMVENT THE ANALOG

Basically it's like, I don't mind if your setting doesn't have super grounded detailed worldbuilding if that's not the focus of the show, but if you DO give me grounded detailed worldbuilding, I expect you to keep up that level of fidelity for the rest of the work; that's the standard you've established and that's what I'm holding you to. The same can be said of character writing, themes, etc.

I also want to note that "inconsistent" is a valid choice here - JoJo is a great example of something where the consistent standard of the various fantastical elements is inconsistency, and it works great! But if you establish a set of ground rules and adhere to them for the majority of the work, the one time you end up breaking those rules for the sake of the narrative, you break my trust in you as a writer. This is why, IMO, Rule of Cool isn't a get out of jail free card excuse when it comes to writing (and I hate that people use it that way); you have to look at how it fits into the bigger picture of the work.

For these reasons, I think this is why I really can't get into network television or american comics or other mediums that are extremely prone to baton-passing between writers, because oftentimes different writers have different levels of focus/fidelity and tend to be very opinionated about it, which leads to those focuses being consistent in anything THEY'RE writing, but the next person is going to take a completely different approach to things. It's hard to get and stay invested when I can't even count on the elements of the work that I like sticking around.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that these are serialized mediums that tend to be written as they go along! A multi writer project that has a singular release, like a video game, has the ability to be edited and tweaked into a more cohesive vision that a serialized one doesn't. This is, I think, why I tend to be drawn more towards serialized mediums that are made only by one person (maybe a duo of collaborators at most) - manga, webnovels, TTRPGs (referring to the GM- though these are far more prone to too many cooks in the kitchen than the prior ones due to the involvement of the players.)
