Fallen Love Records: Who is Songs By Thom?
Thom: Songs By Thom is me, Thom Petrizzo. I write all the Songs by Thom and play/record all instruments and vocals. Live we are a duo with Craig Miller on drums. Sometimes we have a bass player, keyboard, violin, mandolin, and flute.
FLR: How long have you been playing music?
T: I have been playing piano since I was 7, guitar 15, and writing and recording songs since I was 17. Live as Songs By Thom since 2013.
FLR: What’s spring like in Los Angeles?
T: Spring comes early in L.A. We usually get a preview in February with warmer temperatures and the air smells of orange blossoms, but it gets colder and rainier again. Actual spring is like summer and doesn’t end until winter!
FLR: What would you pack for a picnic?
T: A basket with sandwiches, fruit, chips, and some beer! Also a good book and/or radio. And Craig would most likely be there too.
FLR: Tell us about “Spring Is Here.”
T: The melody for “Spring Is Here” popped into my head last spring. When it came time to write the song I remembered it sounding very springlike! It’s about the feeling of hope that looking forward to and the actual arrival of spring inspires. After winter (even in L.A.) anything seems possible!
FLR: What does Songs By Thom have planned for the upcoming spring and summer?
T: Finish writing and record a new EP or LP and play more shows.
