okay this is possibly bonkers advice but I’ve found that writing a cover letter is so easy if you just like. briefly inhabit the persona of a high elf who thinks they’re hot shit and cannot imagine why any of their previous work experience would be anything less than gobsmackingly impressive. “as you will see in my resume, I have extensive experience with…” “I am ideal for this position because…” “I’ve noticed this thing you do well and here’s how I will help do it even better…” just really go for it you know, just act like you’re already half hired 

i’m all about calling out oppressive structures on the daily but this call-out culture that we’re living in is becoming so intense that people are genuinely forgetting the importance of compassion. it’s okay to be angry but don’t lose your humanity. you can educate people on things they’re ignorant about without “canceling” them with no further discussion. every single person is a real live human being with a real heart and real feelings. i’d venture to guess that you once weren’t as “woke” are you are now. don’t forget your compassion in your advocacy because if you do you’re not really helping the cause. all you’re doing is perpetuating further hostility, isolation, and broken connections.

I regret posting this so much

take some time to reflect on how much you’ve grown over the last few months, in any way, whether you started going to therapy, got a new job, gained new interests, finished your exams, started journaling, or even became more empathetic towards yourself. remind yourself that growth is always there, and that it doesn’t need to be incredibly life-changing to hold significance. you are growing in every way; and these events often lead to very bright things.
