"Now we slipped in the courtyard doors of the hotel and went up to the lavish parlor of our suite. Champagne glistened in a frosted bucket. Two glasses stood on the silver tray. I knew Lestat would fill one glass and sit there staring at the pale yellow color. And I, a man in a trance, lay on the settee staring at him as if nothing he could do mattered. I have to leave him or die, I thought. It would be sweet to die, I thought. Yes, die. I wanted to die before. Now I wish to die. I saw it with such sweet clarity, such dead calm."

Episode 2: Toledo It's time to talk about Gabrielle! Yes, there's incesty stuff in the book, but that doesn't mean what the show is doing is the same at all.
Sketchy stuff, hangin' with the pack. <3 Lestat and his doggos are my favorite part of the book. :`)

You thought you knew the Vampire Lestat? Think again!
My breakdown of Episode 1: Detroit, in which we discuss all the parts of the Anne Rice books the TV show used for its new season and which parts it changed, and what those changes now mean for the show's universe and characters.
"What an unusual name, Lestat," she returned. "Does it have a meaning?" "None whatsoever, Madam," Lestat answered. "If memory serves me right, and it does less and less, the name's compounded of the first letter of each of my six older brothers' names, all of whom--the brothers and their names--I grew up to cheerfully and vigorously despise."
Lestat on the origin of his first name, Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice
Edit to add, of course (direct quotes from Blood Canticle)

Interview with the Vampire: 50th Anniversary Celebration
The contemporary gothic novel, Interview with the Vampire, was published on May 5, 1976. Fifty years later, and with thousands of fans around the world, Anne Rice’s legacy lives on; she transformed the vampire narrative and created a sanctuary within her words for the "weirdos." Today, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the book that started it all.

"When I write about men, even if they are gay men, the critical response has tended to be better than to relationships with women. I can present a highly romantic relationship between two men, and the book isn't perceived as just a romance, but that's exactly what happens if one of those people is a woman. They're spoken of pejoratively as 'just a romance.' When I first started writing, I was very conscious of this. I remember being conscious with Louis and Lestat that if one of them had been a woman, the novel would have received harsh criticism. A scene like the one where Lestat makes Louis a vampire would have been put down as a cheap Gothic romantic scene. But because it was two men, I was able to deal with the real essence of dominance and submission. I was able to remove it from the gender cliches and to talk about what it really is [...]" -- Conversations With Anne Rice, by Michael Riley

Lestat <3s his weird nerd husband
Here it is, one of the most unhinged photos of Anne Rice that I’ve ever seen. I bought the copy of Interview with the Vampire solely for this author photo.
Is the doll supposed to be Claudia? Is it just because this is when she started her doll collecting binge? I don’t know, but this photo is AMAZING.
