Another dad!ghost idea that won’t leave my head.
His baby girl going to her other parent, asking if daddy’s loves her. He doesn’t smile very much at times (not saying he never does), he never says I love you if she doesn’t.
And Simon’s partner has to explain (while he obviously listens, for the sake of the plot). You know, everyone has a different love language, every expresses their love differently. You, for example, use words: you say ‘I love you’ a lot. Me, I like to tell you the words ‘I love you’, but I also like to do things that will make you or daddy happy: I buy you clothes you like, we go to the parc you like, or I make daddy’s favourite meal when he’s very tired. And daddy, he doesn’t really like to say it, not even to me. But I know he loves me, because he helps me when I can’t do it myself and comforts me when I’m sad or upset. Well, to show you his love, daddy brings you to McDonald’s from time to time, and he stays with you in your room to spend some time with you, and he lets you stay up late to watch tv.
And if (when) the wee thing still doesn’t feel that convinced, Simon keeps listening still. You know, when daddy was a baby, when he was your age, his dad wasn’t very nice to him. And neither daddy’s daddy nor daddy’s mummy ever told him they loved him. Daddy didn’t have a very happy childhood. Because he didn’t hear ‘I love you’ often, sometimes it’s hard for daddy to say he loves you or that he loves me. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t, okay ?
Simon feels his eyes tearing up: his own daughter didn’t think he loved her (never mind the ‘at times’, he didn’t hear that part). No tear fell, but best believe his heart was shattered.
The baby girl started crying out of pity for her dad, understanding very well what was told to her. She kept crying for a short moment in her parent’s arms, until Simón entered the room as if nothing happened. Immediately, the baby extends her arms to him. He took her in his arms and made the effort to tell her he loves her first.
