my least favorite nicknames
I grew up in a somewhat conservative family, so I used to be kind of sex-negative because all the relationships I ever saw looked so unappealing. The girl was always "innocent" and "sweet" while the guy was "strong" and "brooding". No matter what the girl said she was always playing hard to get, "no" always secretly meant "yes", and after marriage: nuclear family structure feat. housewife and working husband.
eughhhh.....
so yeah here's some nicknames that i dislike.
"babygirl", "little girl"
would be a cute thing to call an infant. too bad i'm not an actual human baby and i don't want to be treated like one. if i wanted to be infantilized i would go talk to my parents.
any version of "my prey" or "pet", signifying ownership
no thank you? i'm my own person.
any profanity
oh no, sorry that i want respect from my partner. like come on misogyny is already everywhere, i don't need to feel catcalled even when i'm with someone i'm supposed to trust.
any concept
i'm aware this doesn't really happen in real life, but in books it is rather jarring. i've seen weird books where the ml calls the fl "my violence" or some shit like that. it is so unbearably corny.
to end it off i am AWARE that some of the names given have in-universe reasons and are supposed to serve as "empowerment" or "it's just how the character is!!!!". but come on. if it's really like that then how come it's always the guy giving the girl these nicknames? can't the girl give the guy something equally as bad because it's also empowerment?? i know it's not that deep, but i feel like almost all the mainstream media I grew up with fell under one of the above categories and was always framed as "romantic" when it was just boring, repetitive, and just reaffirmed stupid heteronormative standards. "but people like heteronormative stuff! it sells!" not me. sorry for being the woker i guess.
