I am pro-kink and NUANCED pro-fic. I use the pro-fic label for a quick view point instead of repeating what I think over and over again to asks because it gets tiring. Do not label me as a proshipper, a darkshipper, or anything of the sort. I do not like their communities in any way, I do not like the profic community either in any way—don't start screaming at me for "trying to defend myself from being in an icky community", as before, i do not like any of these communities. my full stance is here, DONT SEND ME ASKS ABOUT SHIPCOURSE. I occasionally discuss kink topics with proper warnings and tags, but despite my stance on fiction, discussions of it will not be brought here. Do not involve me when someone else's kink/fetish grosses you out or makes you uncomfortable, you won't get the response you're hoping for.

I do not like blankqueer labels. I do not like radqueers, radnormals, or anything. Do not follow me. You can reblog and like my posts. Multiple people have falsely accused me of producing csem, which isn't true and never will be.

I never said fiction doesn't affect reality. It absolutely can in its own way.

There's been a few anons sending me studies or bringing up propaganda as if my position is "fiction never affects people." That's never been my argument.

Most of the studies I've been shown actually reinforce the point I've been making: media can influence attitudes, emotions, and perceptions, but people don't all walk away with the same interpretation. Two people can consume the exact same story and come away with completely different lessons depending on their experiences, beliefs, environment, and media literacy.

Back to propaganda.

Propaganda isn't defined by whether it's fiction or nonfiction—it can use either. What makes something propaganda is that it's intentionally created to persuade people toward a political, ideological, or social goal. It often relies on emotional appeals, selective information, repetition, and trusted institutions to reinforce its message. Usually any sort of taboo writing or art warns people away from doing anything irl, but propaganda tries to appeal to you because they want people to agree with them that certain real world topics are good, okay, and/or cool.

That's also why propaganda works differently than someone privately reading a disturbing novel or writing dark fanfiction. Successful propaganda rarely exists in isolation. It's reinforced by governments, schools, families, peers, news outlets, advertising, and broader cultural narratives. People are encouraged to trust those sources, and repeated exposure can shape attitudes over time.

My point is that media effects are incredibly complex. There are studies showing media can influence attitudes, and there are also studies showing those effects depend on context, personality, prior beliefs, social environment, and many other factors. That's why my position is nuanced instead of absolute.

Reality shapes fiction. Fiction can shape how people think about reality. And both are filtered through the individual consuming them.

I'd rather judge people by how they actually treat other human beings.
