Christianity lost the plot when people took “go forth and preach the good news of Christ and make disciples” to mean colonialism and religious intolerance and control and shame
Everyone needs to go back to understanding it as spreading radical love and fighting for the oppressed everywhere and calling empire to repentance and fostering caring dialogue with others instead of having a weird bigoted superiority complex
More Christians need to stop doing fucking colonizer shit. Stop going to other countries to tell them to accept your white man’s version of Christianity and build shoddy houses without actually listening to the communities and their wishes and what they say they need and more importantly their consent as to whether or not they want you over there at all. Stop going out to people on the street telling them to realize they’re shit and need to change or they’ll be punished.
Go to protests and when someone asks you why you’re there, say your faith compels you to stand alongside the victims of oppression. Go to the soup kitchen. The DV shelters. The homeless camps. The low income housing. And ask what help they need and want (and if they don’t want it, fuck off). Donate your time and resources to organizations doing mutual aid and real work. Go yell at the empire and fight to tear it down from its idolatrous throne. Be an example of love and care and liberating radical change in the world. THAT is the great commission.

It's so peaceful being a Christian who does not believe in the existence of the eternal hell.
Conventional Christians ask me why I believe that. They tell me that there isn't any point in being Christian if we won't be rewarded for my faith.
However, my faith is not validated by the eternal suffering of others and my God is not that small.
I wrote this as a reply to another post like two years ago, but I still stand by it and I think it is relevant to add here:

Literally how did mainstream Christianity convince us that the all loving God would choose to send people to eternal torment just for non-belief. I know I wouldn’t do that, does that mean I love more than God? No, it means we have grossly misunderstood what unconditional love means.

As an LGBTQ person and as a Catholic, I feel that I was created the way that I am to better understand Jesus' persecution for simply loving others. We are called to practice radical love and compassion for those close to us. Whether they be our family or a stranger. It is not a sin to love as Jesus called us to love our neighbor and our enemy.

i cannot imagine how deeply stressful and miserable one must be to truly believe their loving God will punish them for all eternity-- longer than a human mind could even begin to grasp!-- because they didn't live their 73.5 years alive meeting each of His expectations and repenting perfectly when they fell short. Words cannot define or describe how small a human life is compared to eternity. you really, truly think God will decide your eternal fate on that miniscule number of years, and nothing else? That you die and immediately *poof* God has made His decision? Do you realize cruel, how unjust, how petty you make God sound? that isn't mercy, or love, and frankly it's a cosmic joke to call it either of those.
