“Tell Allison thank you for her kind and thoughtful gift,” I smile and tell the servant making a mental note to thank her properly soon. I coo at the adorable outfits for Bingbing, “she’ll look so cute in these!”

“Sol sit back down, you can play dress up later, she needs her nap and so do you,” Bi-Han frowns and takes the baby from me. She seems almost more comfortable in his arms than she does in mine, probably because his body temperature is closer to hers.

“Aì rén, I’m fine, yes she needs her nap but I need to send Allison a proper thank you note and fix an after school snack for the boys, they’ll be home soon. I can’t just neglect them because Bingbing is here now,” I fuss at Bi-Han as he grumbles and wraps Bingbing in her new blanket and heads upstairs to put the baby down for her nap.

I make a simple after school snack of cut up fruits and cheeses for the boys before sitting down to write a note to send.

Dear Allison,

Thank you so much for your kind gift, Bingbing will look adorable in the outfits and she loves the blanket. When things are a little more settled I’d love for you and the family to join us in a little welcome dinner for Bingbing. The boys have been pestering me about playing with Li and Wei for sometime now and I think they’d most certainly love a little break from their baby sister. Hope all is well with you and yours and thank you again.

My current state leaves a question for me and Shang… who’d take care of the kids if something happens to Shang and I. We never worked out the details of the whole godparent route with Wei and Li. We figure now would be a better than not doing this at all. We agree on one couple.

I settle down and write a note to Sol and Bi-Han, asking them and their kids to come over for supper. Once done, I give it to Nisha. I give her a treat and promise her another when she comes back. She cries out as she flies off to deliver the note.

Upon arriving at Sol and Bi-Han’s, there’s another sharp cry as she lands on a window sill. She preens as she waits.

Bi-Han approaches with the twins following closely behind, “another invitation from Allison?” He asks as he notices Nisha still waiting for our answer on the ledge.

“Yup, doesn’t really say why but I’d like to see Allison and her twins before our little one is born, I imagine we won’t have a ton of time for social calls with a fourth child,” I nod as I had him the note and go to fetch a pen and a fresh piece of paper.

“That’s fine, we can go, but I’m not letting you walk all that way, I’ll arrange transportation,” Bi-Han replies in a tone that leaves no room for argument.

My lips quirk into a little smirk as I laugh to myself about how protective Bi-Han is when I’m pregnant, but I can’t blame him, I don’t want walk all that way with my swollen ankles either, especially not when I’m due in less than a month. I write Allison a quick response letting her know that we’ll be there later that evening, I tie the note to Nisha’s leg and give her another small pat before sending her on her way.

A few hours pass and I fuss with the boy’s hair, trying to get it to look like the twins haven’t been training all afternoon and like Shìxuě wasn’t a seven year old with perpetually messy hair, “oh I give up, they have kids too, they know how hard it is to get you boys to stay still long enough to make you look presentable.”

A carriage pulls up to the house and Bi-Han calls us all to the door, “Sol they look fine, the driver’s here, let’s get going.”

I can’t help but grin at the news. The twins are excited as well. They always look forward to seeing Sol, Bi-han and their kids. Wei and Li almost run.

“Slow down, please, you two,” I chide fondly as we get closer.

Wei and Li fuss some but slow down to a brisk walk.

“Thank you. We can’t have two of our best rascals getting hurt.” I say.

I smile brightly when I see the group. Shang and I greet them. Wei and Li chirp out a greeting to them as well.

“As well as can be expected, but I must admit Bi-Han isn’t exactly thrilled I’m not spending 24/7 in bed,” I laugh and greet Shang as I give Allison a hug, no easy feat for someone 8 months along.

“You should be resting, but it’s not like I can freeze you to the bed, well I can, I just shouldn’t,” Bi-Han quips with an amused smirk. He eyes Allison noticing her oversized dress immediately but having a pregnant wife who’s sensitive about her size he’s smart enough to keep his mouth shut.

“I can imagine. I see both points to that. It’s important to rest and pace yourself but a pregnant lady isn’t going to break. The body is capable of many things,” I admit as Sol and I hug.

Shang has a look on his face that says he’s all too familiar with Bi-Han’s plight as he greets the pair. Shang’s went through that once when I was pregnant with Wei and Li and he starting to go through it again.

“Just as strong willed and lovely as my own wife,” Shang admits. “But that’s part of Sol and Allison’s charms.”

“It’s great to see ya’ll too. Shang and I are always tickled to see you and your family,” I grin as I take the offered the boxes. “It’s alright. I understand and relate to that completely. You know you didn’t have to but it’s appreciated.”
