It’s episode one of Hannibal (Apéritif), Jack’s just walked into Will’s lecture hall…

I’ve been doing some research and it turns out, the ‘Evil Minds Research Museum’ is a thing, it exists.

In 2008 Dr. Gregory M. Vecchi, unit chief of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) *AKA the real life Jack* setup the Evil Minds Research Museum in the basement of the FBI Academy *where Will worked. It houses one-of-a-kind artefacts that belonged to or were created by serial killers. The aim of the museum is to “study serial killer and other offender artifacts for the purpose of developing a deeper understanding of offender motivation, personality, and intent in order to assist and enhance investigative strategies and techniques.”.

So what do you know, 5 minutes into Hannibal and we’re already learning.

“Aperitif - an alcoholic drink taken before a meal to stimulate the appetite.” *srsly, that name. The show hasn’t even started yet and it’s already one of the most intelligent, well thought out things on TV. And most importantly sets a precedent that the audience is expected to participate and research, not be mindless like most shows expect us to be. It’s begging for us to notice its brilliance… just like Hanni.
