The East Goths have dwelt in Cimmeria, on the northern shores of the Sunless Sea, ever since Daen came out of the north in the ancient days when Rome was young.  But now, Rome has fallen, and the faith of the new God spreads across the face of the Earth, and even Attila is dead. 

Alarica Roderik’s daughter is a woman trapped between two lives and two worlds.  She is a wise-woman, a Changing One, who reads the stars and walks with the gods.  But her world is changing, and even the Goths will change with it, and her kind are no longer held in high honor.  Her gods have spoken to her, and told her that her lot is to travel into the east, into the East of East before the very Gates of Alexander, where a dying empire makes a last stand against the changing world, and that her fate lies with them in the Graveyard of Empires.

“dat zal mij een worst wezen” which means “that shall be a sausage to me”

I think it makes more sense if you make a non-literal translation to English, something like: “could be a sausage for all I care”
