finny is the furthest away from ciel

we don't see him in the next frame with ciel, but we do see him in the one after it, and he's already picked up ciel by that point. and what really amuses me about this is that no one ever asked him to do that. i guess he could see that the young master's little legs couldn't keep up and was like 🫡on it boss young master!! you'd usually expect sebastian to be the one carrying ciel, but i guess he has his hands full planning their escape from the law. also i like to imagine that as soon as sebastian was like "everyone, this way!" finny just bolted across that handy clear space in the first frame and swooped ciel up like a bird of prey would a mouse, and that this would have been a terrifying thing to experience. if this wasn't such a serious scene after ciel had just seen his twin brother come back to life then i feel like ciel would let out a characteristic 'wah!'.

because no matter how carefully he maintains his cold persona and denies his own vulnerability, ciel is a traumatised and grieving child, and sebastian has indisputably taken on the role of psuedo-parent in day to day life (emotional attachment is not a requirement for this, although lack of it does not usually lead to healthy outcomes).

we know ciel is prone to seek comfort from sebastian when his walls break down, and we also know he has feared sebastian in very similar circumstance. and THAT. that is chilling.

the horror of being mothered and protected by something inhuman, evil, something that wants to consume you. the horror of realising you've grown emotionally reliant on this creature against every better instinct.
