fuck yeah it's a bioactive snail terrarium!

Refreshed terrarium pics. This terrarium has been around for 4+ years, and has garden snails and potato bugs. Thriving inside. I think a few springtails have gotten in thanks to hitching rides on plants. It just got cleaned out today; the ivy had spent the last year growing through the lid, and I finally got around to cutting a hole in the grate to remove it without hurting the ivy. Now it’s repaired with fishing line.

Snissues. The last year has been bumpy thanks to the move, and some of the younger snails were calcium deficient. They had self-rasping issues at the start of 2020. Recovery from that went well thru springtime, but then we moved, and this fall they got too many leafy veggies (ugh, sorry guys, I was so psyched at the live butter lettuce I didn’t even think about it). Most of them are still alright, just a little bumpy, but I found this one yesterday with a whole chunk of extremely thin shell. Sigh. Thanks to petsmart’s doordash delivery we got a number of goodies on same day delivery: more cuttlebone (”FINALLY!” the snails yell) as well as dried insects, wet mealworms, and an experimental cricket block to add to my fluker’s cricket crumbles. I am making it into a slurry that goes on top of carrots and sweet potato chunks.
