That’s a lot to pack into five days, I know, but it was so much fun that I couldn’t care less about the lack of sleep! The first day was mostly spent on the road; ergo, a bunch of car games, karaoke, naps and fast food, but that didn’t stop me from taking snapshots of the breathtaking sky as we passed from one city to the next. By the time we made it to Maryland it was already dinnertime! It was such a warm welcome at the Dorion household, where we stayed for most of the trip.

Day Two was probably the most hectic. We drove down to Washington DC where we did a bunch of touristy things like visiting the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Lincoln & World War II Memorial. Then we went to Tyson’s Corner in Fairfax County, Virginia where we had some Panda Express (which I’ve been craving for months!) and met up with some family friends; that is, Rachel’s best friend Rose and my mom’s friend Tita Annabel and her daughter.

That in, itself, was a pretty nostalgic reunion. But I think one of the best moments of that day, which brought practically my whole family to tears especially my mom and dad, was when we visited our old home in Cinnamon Oaks, Virginia. The trees that they planted years ago when they built the house were now gigantic! My dad couldn’t stop talking about it as we drove to the Garcia household for dinner. He also couldn’t contain himself when we finally saw Tito Russell.

Time does travel way too fast, but there are moments like this that you wish you could freeze for a second, or capture in a picture. Sixteen years dissolved in two hours, and it was as if we never left. It was nice to see my dad having a good time, and being the drunk one for a change. That – and seeing my childhood friends and Nana Zeny, who practically raised us as kids back in Cinnamon Oaks.

  Day 3 would have to be my favorite of them all. I was able to cross another thing off my bucketlist – learning how to ski! Anthony & Annabelle took us on a day trip to Whitetail, Pennsylvania. We took a quick class before we hit the slopes & I was surprised how easily I got the hang of things! Next time I’m definitely going to try snowboarding!

You’d think after all that, we would take a break or something. No siree! The very next day we drove to Atlantic City, New Jersey! All I can say is that we enjoyed retail therapy at its finest, and that’s probably why we weren’t THAT tired. It was so cold at the Boardwalk but that didn’t stop me from getting my Panda Express, Hooters & Wet Willy’s!

  If it were up to me, I would have wanted to stay a bit longer in each place so we wouldn’t be in such a hurry. Five days just wasn’t enough! That being said, I still enjoyed every second of it! Our road trip was short and bittersweet, but at the same time the most spontaneous five-day adventure I’ve ever taken with my family!

I’m telling you, whether you’ve already tried this before or you’re simply thinking about it, I suggest you make it happen and go on another little road trip! Family always brings the fun no matter where you end up going.
