Reviving old convos on dating apps
Let me preface this by saying I seldom use Happn. I rarely get messages from guys with whom I match, and there are more users on other platforms, so I donât put much effort/attention into this one.
I matched with a guy last year. I figured heâs not bad looking, and hey, a match on Happn who did say hello, cool. But he didnât seem to proffer much of a personality, nor did he really try to learn about mine, so I figured it would just sorta fade out.
I typically donât comment on anything involving a shower (esp right off the bat?!) because it never ends well. Thatâs why I said nothing after that comment.
Now see, at first, I didnât catch it. I knew I hadnât used the app in a while, but I thought that itâs cuffing season, we probably matched in the summer and heâs back looking at my pics, whatever. I quickly glanced up at the earlier convo and was like ehh, tame, whatever, itâs fine.
Iâm ignoring the âyourâ because typos happen, but here were my main takeaways:
#1 - Whoa whoa, wait, âsome time last YEAR?âÂ
#2Â - The last time we spoke, you âhad to take a cold shower?â I gave you a quick review of Scandal and said Iâd been working.
(That gif applies to both of the above, frankly.)
I thought OK, itâs late, heâs awkward and maybe heâs a little drunk, Iâm gonna just let that go and not respond. But things didnât change.
OK, you like my pictures, what do you want me to say beyond âthank you?â Itâs an awkward thing to say when there isnât any flirting occurring, so I just let that flap in the wind, but for some reason, I kept on keeping on, hoping heâd find SOME topic to bring to the table besides him looking at my pictures.
âWanting you?â Flattering, sure, but we have barely spoken.
Revisiting people from your past is typically a bad idea (not always, but generally), but I thought that revisiting a convo that didnât go anywhere might be fine? Then again, sometimes things donât anywhere the first time for a reason, and itâs a good practice to just...
