i find this particularly in relation to his killing of the suitors. i’ve seen a lot of people say he killed them ‘for penelope’— right, because it wasn’t due to his own wounded ego and threatened masculinity…? that’s ALSO why he had her maids killed, right? for her?

i also think people’s perceptions of his relationships with calypso and circe and skewed by their desire to view him as ‘moral’. sure, he didn’t want to be with calypso— but it’s a LOT less clear-cut when it comes to circe. i think people are applying modern ideas of monogamy to texts where they really do not make sense.

and don’t even get me STARTED on telemachus. telemachus is a complex, and often downright unpleasant character. i truly don’t think you can accurately describe him as this ‘perfect angel baby’ as which some people on tumblr seem to view him.
