@warraigoe asked : ✂ / i think it would be funny if ryouko killed kyon. like ?? how has no one thought about it before ??
freedom of choice — it was something most tfei’s didn’t have . always having to ask for permission . request after request , denial after denial . it was frustrating , to say the least . after her encounter with the interface from the heavenly canopy domain ryoko had begun to recognize something within herself : jealousy .
while she had to be watched over by kimidori , the interface that the data integration thought entity was still struggling to understand got to do what she wanted when she wanted to . no pause for permission , no restrictions , she just did things without consequence . that wasn’t very fair , was it ?
change . it’s all ryoko has ever wanted . a change in this world , something interesting to observe . with each day that passed this place grew duller and duller by the second . the same old thing every single day . possessing a physical form made one far too aware of just how slowly time actually passed . if they were here to observe something : why not observe something interesting ?
she was always a firm believer in what her faction stood for . while they certainly weren’t the majority , they did have steadily growing numbers . yet , despite being in such a faction , ryoko’s ability to govern her own actions had been stripped from her . and while she perfectly understood the reason why — she also disagreed with it .
what was stopping her from doing what nagato did ? she stole haruhi suzumiya’s powers , she recreated the world to fit her own desires . yet she didn’t get permission to do such a thing . there was no way she would’ve gotten approval to do such a thing . how did she do it ? that was the main question that’s been on ryoko’s mind ever since the incident took place .
an error ? she didn’t think so . moving beyond the need for permission , that wasn’t an error : it was evolution . while the incident had gotten nagato punished , ryoko believed it was the entity that was at fault for misunderstanding the situation . after all , their higher ups were far too conservative in their beliefs .
so what is stopping her from doing this ? why can’t she do such a thing ? the answers were actually far more simple than ryoko would’ve ever anticipated : nothing , and she can .
perhaps she’s being petty , having attempted this so many times without avail . or perhaps it’s because she knows that his death in particular would cause so many events to take place . what they were she had no idea , but she knew that people of interest cared about him . — their reactions would surely be something interesting to observe . that’s all she cared about . why he was of such interest she really couldn’t pinpoint , he was ordinary to the point of being boring , it was difficult for ryoko to find anything about him she might find remotely interesting . he was the same as the majority of the organic lifeforms on this planet . yet somehow far more important .
appearing behind the teen , ryoko can’t help but smile . is this what autonomy feels like , nagato ? error — no . the interface cuts out a section of this area in space time , disconnecting both her and the human from the outside world . error — it’s not . she grasps the hilt of her knife , calmly approaching the boy . error — i’m functioning perfectly well . she’s right behind him , one hand on his shoulder and the other holding the blade against his neck .
she immediately knows that he fears her , but she will never understand the reason . ‶ don’t move , okay ? ″ her sickeningly sweet voice is right next to his ear . — death was natural for organic lifeforms . they couldn’t escape it , eventually they would all come to the end . to ryoko , dying was no different than breathing or eating : it was normal . nothing special , nothing significant . yet every being she came across viewed it to be such a big deal . perhaps killing him would allow her to observe why that is .
‶ i’ve learned from my last few mistakes , so i’m not going to hesitate , alright ? i hope you understand . ″ when she’s finished here , maybe her superiors will finally understand her point of view . ‶ i’m going to kill you now ! struggling will only make it hurt more , but i won’t stop you from trying , if you’d like to . ″ it’s nice to have control over your actions , isn’t it ?
the blade presses into his throat with ease , it’s sharp and she’s inhumanly strong . sure , it’s messy — the noises being made are horrendous , but she doesn’t mind at all . she lets it take it’s course , no one can enter this space , after all . she made sure of that one . and eventually kyon falls limp . she allows him to fall to the ground , standing up straight . she did it — she actually did it . is she happy right now ? proud even ? there was something so satisfying about finally accomplishing this .
she leaves the scene easily , deconstructing the space and allowing for the body to return to where it should be . where it could be found .
ERROR ERROR ERROR — it’s evolution .
