we will be reunited .
THOMA was patient. heâd waited for you. heâd worried for you. he missed you. he remembered the pang in his heart as you told him of your departure, and the doubt he hid in between smiles of your reassurances of your safety and return. but ⊠he should trust you, right? right. but that still didnât stop him from wistfully staring at the empty seat across his at the teahouse, or the longing stares across his bed in the mornings spent without you. and yet here he was, waiting again at the very same harbor where you had first met. he fiddled with the hem of his jacket, verdant eyes darting back and forth to the waters of east and west. would you be alright? he huffed at the thought, mentally slapping himself for being such a worrywart. he trusted you. he always did, didnât he? he continued to stare off into the vast expanse of sea. then, finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the mighty oars of the crux rolled into the harborâs neighboring waters. he jumped up, enthusiastic as ever, he ran to meet you at the pier, his heart pounding in such a way that could rival the repetitive thumps of a taiko drum. he reached you, skidding to a stop as he basked in your presence, watching you as you smiled. he picked you up as sudden as his arrival before you, spinning you around, the memories of your first meeting and the realization of the present resonating in parallel. he sighed in relief as he put you down gently, his features breaking into a grin as he sank into your loving gaze. âi missed you, you know that?â he said, placing his hands on either sides of your shoulders. you laughed. âof course i did, dummy. i missed you, too.â you smiled once more, looking into his bright green irises as he leaned in for a kiss. giggling slightly as you pecked him on the lips, you swerved around from his embrace, preventing him from doing anything further. ânow ⊠where was that hotpot you promised me?â you strode onwards towards the maple-red port, grinning as you turned to look back at your loverâs bewildered expression as he struggled to catch up to you. âhey, wait! you stole my kiss, you âŠ!" Â
at his usual perch, XIAO surveyed the midnight-covered plateau of bishui plain. no names were muttered that night, nor were there any mortal lives in need of saving. it was ⊠silent, in a way that an adeptus like him would find concerning. but maybe it felt more calming, given that this was his daily routine for as long as he could remember. but ⊠something was missing, somehow. the karmic residue that settled in his veins had pooled thicker ever since you left. he wondered why. he trusted you, of course, in your ability to protect yourself and your promises of return. just when had you promised, again? he was beginning to forget. it had been so long since he had felt the warmth of your touch. then, as if on cue, he heard the distant rumbling of the innâs elevator come to a stop, and footsteps he instantly recognized resounded across the wooden planks. his breath hitched as he set his spear aside, and turned to see your lovely face in the light of the moon. "iâm home, XIAO.â he offered you a rare smile in return to yours. you hummed cheekily as you pecked him on the forehead, right where the aquamarine mark shone on the crown of his head. he flushed, his warm demeanor changing as he was about to snap back with a sharp retort. âi brought a plate of almond tofu. would you like to share?â he grinning slightly. oh, how much he had missed you.Â
the feeling of loneliness was something KAZUHA would endure many times in his wandering life. he could never complain, after all. it was his own choice, his own promise that was forged. but you by his side was a blessing he would never take for granted. you just being there would help ebb away at the emptiness that had started to eat his heart whole. you were the hope that lit the end of the tunnel, the sun on his darkest of days. your smile was what would keep him going, the determination in his eyes fueled by your unerring love. but when you left, it was as if you took a piece of his heart with you. you promised that you would return. you promised. so why werenât you here? with him? by his side, once more? beidou would tell him that he neednât worry. you had fought by his side in many battles after all. you were the one that would dress his wounds and whisper sweet nothings in his ears to make the pain go away. he would sigh in defeat and retreat to his cabin, writing yet another letter whose address was unknown. he would watch the sun rise and fall beyond the rocky hills of guyun, and sink far below the watery depths of the sea. he would sit at the crowâs nest, lost in his misery. was this how your story would end? he would watch the milling people of the harbor come and go, and not a single one had your familiar smile plastered across their face. then, on one sunny morning, he saw you. the dawn was shining down on your face as you raced across the harbor. he would stand there, stunned, as you tackled him onto the sunlit deck of the crux, your hearts beating in tandem to the rolling waves of the ocean. he felt tears roll down his cheeks as he whispered in your ear. âyou came back.â âof course i did. why wouldnât i?â he breathed once more, inhaling your familiar scent. wherever in the world you may roam, you were one, together. two souls bound to their hearts forevermore.Â
