The son of the god of Death fears dying most of all. Terrified of non-existence, he seeks ways to extend his life-- and becoming a full god is the simplest.
But those born of Death cannot use their powers against each other. They don't work, fizzling out as soon as the magic senses its kinship with a target. So instead of killing his father and inheriting his birthright early, he starts hunting other gods.
First he hunts those who have the least offspring, trying to brute-force his way into inheriting their power by denying them of heirs.
The Hunter had no heirs. Why didn't the power become his?
Midnight's damned daughter escaped the trap that caught her mother. How could a twelve year old evade the skill and information net of one of the most powerful demigods in the world?
And worst of all, he was caught killing Fire.
Someone interfered at his trial. He knows that much. He should have been executed for his crimes, not banished. Or maybe they decided that trapping him on the island of a dead god to watch his death creep ever closer would be a more fitting punishment.
Whatever the case, he was sent to Atlatl, the home of the god of War-- and none can leave the island without War's approval. With War and its powers long since dead with no inheritors, he cannot escape.
But fortune, it seems, still smiles upon even disgraced demigods, for he finds Midnight's daughter on this godsforsaken island as well, and this time she doesn't have mommy to protect her.

This is a blog dedicated to the reworking of "YWBTBID", an AU I had for my MTG character over on @redhandedsuggestions. This will be a combination of worldbuilding blog, suggestion blog, writing/snippet posting blog, and aesthetic post collection blog, much like my other OC blogs are.
Mestas is the same core character, as is Rath, but some changes have been made to them to fit the new world's lore: Rath is a drake-shifter and Mestas is a full vampire, one of three types in the world.
But some of the characters from the original AU belong to other people, one of whom I would much rather divorce my writing and characters from. For that reason, I'm breaking YWBTBID into its own thing. While still inspired by MTG in some places, I'm reworking many things and turning this into an original world and storyline, separate from any aspects of the old one save for characters and plot outline.
Since the world- and story-building is heavily in progress, some posts may contradict each other while I'm still working on nailing some things down. For example, I believe I have a queued post explaining Mestas's youth, which has since been drastically changed and is no longer anything like what that post details.
Interested in seeing the MTG AU that spawned YWBTBID in the first place? Interested in hearing about other AUs i have for these characters in general? Go check out RedHandedSuggestions (linked above)!
