New magic: stops working if you look at it funny. Need to find a specialized wizard to fix which costs WAY too much gold.

Old magic: works even if you cast it in a hurricane during a flash flood. Can be fixed by slapping the focus just right or by deactivating and reactivating the charm again. Once fixed an issue just by yelling angerly.
