Part two of my portrait journey. . I keep falling between wanting to be authentic and open with my posts, and wanting to seem/show professional qualities. Instead, I think I’ll just show how my development has grown within the last year of photography. . This first picture was also taken in December 2019, before I knew how to direct models or focus effectively. I’m still not happy with how long it takes for me to improve my skills, but I’m glad it’s happening. I’m discovering that achieving something doesn’t magically make me happy, and neither does getting something I’ve wanted. Today has been a bit of a down day so I’m going to skip that reflection. Instead, I’ve noticed that I enjoy taking pictures of animals and I would really be interested in starting a pet photography side hustle. I was pretty happy with how these pictures (coming soon) turned out, and I’m wanting to keep this development going.

I went back to some of the older self timer pictures I took to see what I could do to them. Seeing all the amazing working people do Inspired me to try something more moody and experimental in my editing process, sort of as a way to make photos that may not have been the best in technical terms, pop. I wanted to rework the framing and general quality of this picture, without changing all the colour balance and harmony of the original image here.

I recently learnt some new editing techniques and they kinda cut the time of what I was doing in half, while also adding new ideas and further refinement into the results. I’m quite excited to begin sharing some of the newer pictures I’ve been taking because I’m sure the development will show.
