Sable Vogue! The sable antelope is a rotund, barrel-chested antelope with a short neck, long face and dark mane. Sable antelopes inhabit savannah woodlands from Tanzania to South Africa, with a separate population in Angola. Males weight up to 235 kg, while females are slightly less heavy. Both males and females boast impressive ringed horns that rise vertically and curve backward. Sable antelopes live in herds of 10 to 30 females and calves led by a bull. They are most active during the day, grazing and browsing on grasses, herbs and leaves. Like many other antelopes, they breed seasonally and give birth during the rainy season, after a gestation period of 8 to 9 months.
