drew some of my own art of hair down mondo :)

i say it’s a small pet peeve because i guess that’s not common knowledge but here’s your reminder!

mondo’s specific style of pompadour is called a “punch perm pompadour.” the title basically explains the whole thing, but men will get a punch perm (which gives them very tight curls, around 3C to 4A) and proceed to style those curls into the iconic pompadour shape with the help of hair spray, the volume provided by the curls helping create the large and distinct structure. mondo’s darker colored hair in the back is assumed to be straightened with a flat iron.

(whether mondo has the curls naturally or gets his hair permed is all up to you)

that’s why mondo’s pomp has that texture that people liken to corn. those little bumps are meant to be curls. dangan artists have always just kinda sucked at drawing hair that isn’t straight.

hell, just look at the stageplays (aka: the closest thing we have to a live action danganronpa). in both versions of the thh stageplay, the mondo actor is wearing a pompadour wig with textured hair:

so yeah. mondo having curly hair isn’t just a random headcanon. it’s very much tied to canon and is another element of the bosozoku culture shown in mondo’s design.

again, not saying it’s a bad thing if you don’t draw it like that (hell, i’m not the best at drawing the curls when they’re actually styled in the pomp), but i think it’s something a lot of fanartists can benefit from practicing. consider him your character to practice drawing curly hair on.

Even though Mondo is used to make his hair in a pompadour he's still afraid of doing hairstyles that he thinks are for girls, poor guy haha

There are lots of instances of this (Sonia and Gundham, Hajime and Chiaki, Nekomaru and Akane, etc) but this specific Taka and Mondo art is what made me think of it so they get the highlight reel

being dotted on is such a beautiful thing. just the simple act of doing something small and completely unnecessary for or to someone just because you appreciate their presence and want to lessen their load is so sweet.

going along with that, i choose to believe that after something like gym class or working out, basically whenever a shower afterwards is a non negotiable, taka takes the time to undo and brush out mondo's pompadour just to make his shower routine quicker and easier. taka's main form of dotting has go to be doing little acts of service that make everyday tasks, such as washing hair, faster and more efficient. not necessarily because he thinks that other people would take too long and that he does things more efficiently, but because he sees it as giving that person more time to partake in other productive activities.
