there’s a type of gamer that’s obsessed with the specter of “indie rpgs about depression” when i can think of relatively few examples off the top of my head of rpgs that are actually about depression as opposed to just having, like, stories that try to make you feel emotions and are sad sometimes? this is pretentious, somehow
i wish all people who say the phrase "AAA devs" as though we are some collective with generally similar opinions a very pull your head out of your ass. we are people. we are not our studios, we are not our publishers, we are not our executives. we are people with a wide range of beliefs and opinions on our own industry and also other video-games, and most of us are also gamers. just because you see a couple loud people with shitty opinions doesn't mean they speak for "AAA devs," just like is the case for literally any other group of people.
we are in the midst of the worst labor crisis of our lives struggling to take back power from our corporations, fighting to form unions to get living wages and make better games for players and stop a lot of the very shit you're upset about, and then i get on social media and see the most airheaded gamer takes every day of my life.
when i say 'i want worse graphics', some ppl assume i mean 'i want stylyzed instead of realistic' then get mad at me for saying it wrong (???) so let me be clear:
i want worse graphics. i want the models topology to be a bit off, i want the rigging to have a few verts mis-weighted, i want the final model to not be accurate to the concept art cuz it would have been too labor intensive to make the scarf that long. i want the shading to do the thing where a real time character shadow is casting on top of another baked in shadow. i want whatever eases the devs workload and prevents crunch so they can go home to their loved ones and actually enjoy their life outside of work
and im not kidding
i really fucking hate the animosity this site has towards game devs, even AAA ones. y'all know that they're victims of the industry too, right? they're not evil by merit of working at a big company. devs rarely have a say in how & when things are released. it always comes down to who has the money, and they don't care about the well-being of the people who make their product. no one WANTS to make a bad game!!!!!!
