I think my goal for 2026 should be to finally post this Narumitsu Titanic!AU I've been working on for several years now. It's obviously quite separated from canon so I'd like input about whether the characters are too OOC and any other improvements I should make.
18+ only!
If you like:
Long (!) multi-chapter fics
Third person, past tense narration
Historic/period settings
Snarky character POV
Forbidden love
Shipping on a ship
Research notes
Author's barely disguised obsession
And aren't averse to:
MvK-typical abuse (physical, verbal)
Religious guilt, especially re: sexuality
Description of food
Depictions of smoking, alcohol
Depictions of anxiety
Reading an AU of a historical event where lots of real people died (though I will be including notes when I post with links to info from reputable sources, including about specific passengers/crew)
Not knowing how it ends until the final chapter is posted, which might be a looooong time
You may enjoy this!
NOTE: There may be other content warnings I've missed in this ad! I think these are the main ones though.
I'm specifically after feedback on:
If characters are in-character, and how to improve things if not
Pacing - Too much exposition? Too little?
Prose - Purple? Beige? Which bits are which so I can revise them
Plot holes or confusing areas
Any content warnings I might have missed
Rating - right now I wouldn't call it explicit but I'm undecided whether to step over that line, considering the sensitive setting
Suggestions of other events in the course of the story, other character cameos, etc
For now I'm looking to get feedback on the first two chapters since they're the most complete.
I really want to finally share this work, its been a passion project for so long but I'm terrified that it's way too niche 😅 Plus I haven't actually posted a fic in a decade, and it was for a different fandom.
If you're interested shoot me a DM and I'll figure out how to share it with you! Thanks xxx

Being able to draw older people as attractive without reducing or erasing the visual signs of aging, and in fact showing that they're attractive because of those signs, is an artistic skill that should be valued so much more. Honestly, it should earn you an immediate fortune because holy fuck is it a rare commodity. There are so many artists who seem to think attractiveness and aging exist in opposition to each other, so they smooth every wrinkle, erase every crease, and de-age the character until they're basically thirty with silver hair. But when an artist can look at crow's feet, smile lines, weathered skin, deep-set wrinkles, and all the little traces of a life well lived and say, "No, that's what makes them beautiful," that's a level of artistic observation and care I wish we celebrated more often.

Recently I have been thinking about the 7-year gap, and in AA4-2, one detail that I've never thought too hard about before really stuck with me.
Who did gift Phoenix red spider lilies during his stay in the hospital, and with what intent? What an odd choice of a flower to give someone injured, considering its reputation and association.
I decided to look if it has any other meanings on Japanese websites. Putting aside solemn ones like "resignation" and "sad memories," other meanings like "passion," "independence," "reunion," and "looking forward to the day we meet again" could paint an interesting picture of Phoenix's current position and his relationship with the flowers' sender. It makes me wonder if this gift was a gesture of deep hatred or a very particular, albeit odd, celebration. I'm also curious about who gifted them. It's interesting that Phoenix put them on display too. According to him, he knows 3 flowers, but I doubt that these flowers' death association would evade him, as it's so ingrained within the culture. So if these flowers were sent indeed as a threat, his decision to put them on display is pretty cool, as if he's laughing at the sender and their attempt to sour his day.
But it makes me wonder if other readings are me grossly misinterpreting it. Yeah, many meanings were listed on the Japanese websites, but I do wonder what actual Japanese person would think of it. Maybe the second reading is just so improbable and rare it should not be considered. What do you guys think?
