Yes yes yes BloodyMary first meeting
I've seen so much of Simon being afraid of Grace and coming out swinging, and Grace trying to be as gentle and accommodating as possible, and I do love that.
But I raise you this.
Ryland "at least he's not growing in me, ya know, cause that was a serious concern for a while" Grace seeing a mutated man, floating in a submarine full of blood, kinda half put off and nervous to touch a dead body like this Only for the man to wake up.
"NO! No! I'm not doing that!"
"[But Grace make friends with human-]"
"No!"
And Simon "I think I've done enough and I would really like to not be down here anymore. Please." Of Eden grasping onto the only human being around that he knows got him out of the sub.
"Please- Please I don't know what's happening-"
"No no no, don't touch me don't touch me-"
Grace being grossed out and unnerved by the alien?? human?? mutant?? and scared about what he might do if he gets close enough and Simon who just wants human contact again It hurts but it hurts sooo good.
I can just imagine how touch starved Simon is and he's trying to be as still and accommodating as he can to prove he won't hurt Grace. He likes the Eridians and is friendly to them all, trying to earn his keep and cover the teeth on cheek to see more human. Less scary.
And Grace, albeit a little nervous cause this man is a human being that he has no clue got out this far, finally feels safe enough that he isn't some shape shifting probing alien and starts reciprocating the touches Simon always tries to give, since where he used to live was very big on casual touching.
Except the first touch he ever gives the man is with a bright smile, like always, and a cheerful praise while grasping Simon's shoulder. And Simon's pupils dilate so big and Grace is so surprised when the man immediately locks him in the tightest hug he's ever received, a face stuffed into the side of his neck and shuddering breaths coming out of Simon. Touch Adverse Grace is an interesting concept, but I don't want this Grace touch Adverse. I don't want it to feel like : "Oh, Grace doesn't like anyone touching him, so don't be offended." I want it to feel like: "Oh no, Grace touches everyone and everything so- kinda weird that you're left outta that mix."
Grace does like Simon, he's just an anxious thinker, and he did go through all of PHM and got braver, but that doesn't mean he's gonna see a mutated humanoid being in a blood ship that rants about dead stars and planets and not assume that it's an alien trying to play tricks on him. It can play tricks all it wants, but Grace is gonna be his friend from a distance so he can study it. That is until he learns that Simon actually is human and immediately starts with the friendly touches but Simon's all like "Oh, he's chill now? Sick, get in my bed, we're cuddling"
