can you give some examples of racism problems in this community? i think cis white people can not recognise it as easily and therefore it is so common, examples may help a lot in understanding.
here are the main ones i've noticed .
before anyone says anything , i want to say , yes , i am transwhite specifically transitioning to being white european .
no , i can realistically never actually pass or be that because i am bodily biracial / mixed and neither races in question are white . i am visibly , bodily , nonwhite . monolids , tanned skin , thick wavy hair , etc .
so , despite being transwhite ( due to severe internalised racism and colourism towards myself , admittedly , and the culture of the country i grew up in being predominantly white european ) i feel i do have quite a lot of authority on this !
let's run down the list .
1 ) non mixed people saying mutt . i don't give a fuck if you connect to dogs . you are not a fucking mutt . you will never be referred to as a mutt . i am a mutt , bodily , i'm mixed .
2 ) people’s obsession with racial slurs and “ reclaiming ” them to seem more “ valid ” even though i don’t use the slurs that apply to me bodily so i don’t know why certain transrace people see the need to do so . at all . it does not make you more of that race . we ( people bodily that ) don't even all do that .
3 ) people getting mad when bodily bipoc point out we can’t hide being nonwhite but queer mentally ill etc people can sometimes ( emphasis on SOMETIMES , because this does not apply to every disability / being medically transitioning as a trans person / etc ) mask or hide the minorities they are in . so we , the people clearly visibly black & brown , are in more danger than they are + we naturally get targeted more and these people have whiteness as a shield . which is quite literally the strongest shield you can have .
4 ) cultural appropriation . yes this is different from being transracial . there is very clear differences . i can tell when someone is culturally appropriating and does not actually care about the culture vs someone actually wanting to be that ethnicity .
5 ) trying to speak over people who are bodily a race just because they’re transracial . of course you're valid , nobody is arguing otherwise . but do not argue with people born into a certain culture . you are welcome to join said culture but obviously we have different experiences , and we highlight negatives of our culture , and that is okay .
6 ) getting upset at a person not understanding specifics about your identity ( neopronouns , no you / yours , mirror pronouns , specific titles , etc ) because op doesn’t speak english fluently . it’s not intentional ableism / transphobia , many people are just western centric and assume english is fluent for everyone , when many people are still trying to grasp the language and in school are taught certain rules , and are trying to unlearn them on here to address people respectfully . it takes time to do that and people need to be patient .
7 ) american individualism and westernisation is awful in this community .
8 ) people claiming to be woke but being pro imperialism and not reading a lick of communist theory or marx , and regurgitating pro colonial and oppressive talking points . additionally , very present zionism in certain areas . ( this is not about transnzis . this is about people genuinely parroting harmful political rhetoric . ) how are you radqueer and capitalist or libertarian ?
9 ) sometimes beef happens and it turns into an oppression war instead of communicating issues properly , privately .
10 ) people who are bodily white get very uncomfortable when told they inherently have racist prejudices subconsciously , and they get uncomfortable when told to recognise their privilege .
again — i do not care if this gets purposely misinterpreted in bad faith . i said what i said . if you get it , you get it . if you genuinely are confused , i will happily clarify in my replies . but i can tell when someone is being obtuse on purpose as a " gotcha " and as a way to feel superior and be microaggressive . assuming all bodily bipoc people in the community are " aggressive " and " starting shit " and " out to get you " is absolutely a microaggression .
