is an excerpt from Plato's Symposium, where Plato is talking about how people used to be creatures with four hands, four legs, two heads and two hearts, until Zeus separated them, thus creating people how they are today, and thats why theyre always looking for their other half (the other heart that was separated from their own). the passage says:
and because nature was cut in half, each half now wants/ aches for the other (my translation)

to add, the phrase “call me by your name” is influenced by this myth. at first, it might seem a bit odd to call a lover by one’s own name, but if the symposium holds true, you and that lover are one being— your name is theirs and vice versa. thus, calling a lover by your own name is a confirmation that y’all were meant to be.
