This probably took this person 3 seconds to do but it immediately told me that they liked my story enough to come back and read it again and they liked it again the second time.
Your favorite writers Do Not Know that you think about their stories after you read them. I generally assume that my stories make people happy for the few minutes theyāre reading and then they never think about it again. To know that thatās not the case and that someone has returned just makes my little heart swell with joy.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: it's more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It's performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.
This is ultimately why propaganda is going to work on you. Because you never learned how to think for yourself and the actual ideology behind things. You simply rely on group think and the bare minimum explanations to tell you what's good and bad.

I sing and I smile / Of another time
It doesnāt make sense, but the sky is the sea.
Well, that was quite the dark slumber, and thatās the end of my memory. That abyss, itāsā¦ familiar, Iām certain, but more so this sight before me.
But something feels off. āTis akin to walking on air, yet I couldnāt will myself to do that even if I wished.
This isnāt the real Amaurot; this isnāt my real body. Absent of my beautiful locks is enough to tell me that. Despite these illusions, I know the real Emet-Selch is here. (It warms my heart to know Hades dreamt of me, heh heh.)
It seems like an age ago when my friend and I last locked eyes, but I am still here. Somewhere, in stasis, tucked away. I suppose that has become my lifeās purpose: to wait.
And wait I shall gladly do.
Oh, to bask under the light of the stars with you two again. I smile at the thought, yet my eyes sing a different song. A song about a promise, a song about something unexpectedāabout something I owe, and it is long overdue.
But I, as I am now, cannot repay that debt, for it is not truly mine.
Time lost, song unheard / The wind carries on
That little one is unmistakably Azem, sort of. Saying farewell to my new old friend sparked another familiar memory.
Thisā¦Ā this was once my office, yes; from my window I would go people-watching. The shuffling of feet at The Polyleritae District: people passing by, or heading for the other bureaus, or rushing inside mine and frantically wanting or needing their concepts approved.
I always much preferred doing nothing in the comforts of my room, or standing by my friends and assisting them with their antics (mostly Azem) or duties (mostly Hades). Alas, this was my duty. Being surrounded by concepts was, well, just as thrilling as being surrounded by souls; creatures unorthodox at my doorstep never failed to surprise me. (Others bored me beyond compare, though. Some people got way too fascinated by certain ideas and never let them goā¦)
Later, I found myself walking down the same path, but for a different reason in an unforeseen time.
It was my first farewell. As I waved goodbye to Hades, I could tell thatāapart from both despising and missing me soāmy friend looked up to me and my bravery, leaving like that, without a word from the renowned āspeaker of nonsense.ā In truth, I couldnāt say a word; my voice was trapped in my throat and I feared if I let out so much as a sigh, I would break down. And that was not a time for tears.
I was always well-aware of my āweakness,ā but it never isānever will beāa call for help. It is not a ādeficiencyā but simply part of who I am. And I always know when to stand my ground. I know.
Well, I keep a few tricks up my sleeve for two reasons: for emergencies or whenever I feel like showing off. Regardless, I can never master aether manipulation, so it surprises myself now that after a few blinks, the phantom Amaurot turns into the real one.
Fire and ashes. Friends and corpses.
This is the end. My friendsā¦ the stars we once tried to snatch are now coming down to meet us.
The next moment I open my eyes, I see Hadesā stern expression.
Ah.
I give him a smile. Itās to reassure him, even if Iām not convinced myself.
I look into my friendās bright golden eyes one last time.
I hold back the tears as I wave goodbye. I turn around quickly before either of us has time to regret. Before either of us says anything more and falls into the trap of leaving words unsaid.
I keep my eyes on the ground. Then, I look ahead, and walk forward.
On a normal day I would treasure this tale and spread it through song. My predicament now isā¦ I donāt think anyone will be there to hear me.
To bring back our loves, I wonāt say no to a bit part. This is my duty, even if it was not planned. Even if I promised my friends I would be with them, every step of the way, until the three of us returned to the star, together.
Even if I have to be the first to go.
I set my sights to the darkened path. Ashes pepper the streets and the air, making it even harder for me to steady my breathing. The rubble mocks our mighty home, now consumed in a blaze. Left and right I find creatures beyond my wildest imagination, beyond even the strangest concepts I ever beheld, towering over friends, clutching them, andā¦ I refuse to watch further. Even if I shield my eyes, the roar of the beasts and the crashing of the stars tell me, Look. This is all real. Too painfully real, Iād argue.
And, above, the warmth of the sun has disappeared, and the stars refuse to share their comfort. The stars cannot, not like this, clearly; the darkness above meāabove all of usāis no longer the sky.
What has become of the so-called āheavens,ā with patches of smoke that replace the clouds? Where thunder and lightning take their turns, unstopping?
It is an abyss waiting to devour us whole. To erase us.
When I look up and stare at the apocalypse in its face, I feel small.
But I mustnāt give in. I keep my eyes forward, to the darkened path.
This is the road I will walk.
One foot in front of the other. Inhale, exhale. Close my eyes, then watch my step. Repeat. After turning a few corners, I am here.
I refuse to see what is before meānot again, I beg to myself. Before all the hairs on my body stand, I shake the nightmare away, and, to my relief, I am back on the seafloor.
Silence once again. This is my time, now.
āTwas right of Emet-Selch to have chosen this location to ārebuildā our home, I think. The dreams of eld have sunk and crumbled, and this place is very fitting.
Ever the slave to sentiment.
On another plane / You still sing my name
This is not āmyā fight, no. I have nothing to worry about. Just like this Amaurot, this Hythlodaeus is just a mirage.
What that means is this is not my final resting place. I strongly hold close to the theory that once returned to the star and my soul cleansed in the Underworld, I will remember what we lost, and what I missed.
It simply means that it is not yet time. To begin, we first must see the end, isnāt that right?
For now, I exist in solitude, in stasisā¦ waiting.
High above, surrounded by the stars, bright and blinding, along with our peopleāwhen I think about it, I donāt feel so lonely. Not anymore. I will be patiently waiting for you.
āTis true I may no longer bask under the light of the stars with you again, but, up here, I am way ahead of you!
