every time i see a new bit of fun slang, I just assume it's misapplied or appropriated AAVE and my success rate has been like 99%
Obviously anyone who unironically thinks mosquitoes as a species should be fully eradicated is either being very hyperbolic or extremely stupid about the potential environmental impacts of killing off an entire species. I am not disagreeing with the idea that driving an entire species of bug to extinction would be extremely bad.
But.
It's very very very VERY VERY VERY painfully obvious when a "mosquitoes are unfairly maligned and they're actually super important for the environment" post is written from the privileged position of living someplace where the worst thing that can happen to you after being bitten by a mosquito is that you get itchy for a while. And a lot of those posts would benefit from having their tone revised with the awareness that a not insignificant portion of the anti-mosquito sentiment they're responding to comes from people who live in places where getting bitten by a mosquito can mean dying from dengue or malaria.
people replying to my "you can just say you have food poisoning americans always have food poisoning" comment on my thanksgiving excuses post with delighted agreement that they too have noticed americans constantly have food poisoning, but you have forgotten or have missed that we did an actual survey just a scant few months ago and the americans on this site reported in GREAT NUMBERS that we would continue eating at a restaurant that gave us diarrhea/vomiting something like 4-5 times (or forever), while almost everyone else in the world kept it to a solid once, or twice if they really weren;t sure. food poisoning is *genuinely* out of control in the usa, we have awful food safety at every level of the food production chain down to the actual people cooking food at home not understanding temperatures or washing their hands. it was a whole thing, it went on for weeks, and it branched off in multiple directions like "please use your dishwasher if you have one" and "what do you mean you cant tell what gave you food poisoning? oh it's because you're always getting food poisoning? wait what do you mean 'everything your mom/grandma cooks gives ou food poisoning so it doesnt matter'?" anyway yes there is a food safety crisis going on in this country and its getting worse lmao
one single incident of food poisoning can permanently disable you btw. its one of the primary ways people end up with narcolepsy, POTS, MCAS, ME-CFS, gastroparesis and/or fibromyalgia. "americans are constantly getting sick" is an actual thing, and most americans appear to think that having food poisoning multiple times a year is just a normal part of eating food
genuinely almost just killed my father from fear by, while i was driving, gasping out a loud astonished âFUCK?â at an intersection that wouldâve probably indicated we were going to die if not for the fact that it was because we were passing a man on motorcycle in fullbody professional-level jim carrey grinch suit and makeup and prosthetics

I love the "came back wrong" trope but from the opposite side.
Imagine you are dead. And then you are RIPPED from the embrace of decay into the world of the living again. Your memories are hazy and you don't recognize any of these people, but they act like they're close to you? Like they love you? So you try to get your memories back, to act like you belong here, but everybody tries to forget you died. And you can't. It is omnipresent. And just trying to grapple with that fact pushes the people who "love" you away, and they're incapable of understanding, and they're so confused, what's wrong NĚśĚĚOĚśÍÍT̡ĚĚ ĚˇÍÍYĚ´ĚĚČĚ´ĚU̸ĚR NĂMĚ´ĚÍE̞̾Ě? And you just need them to understand, you aren't that person! You aren't! You don't know who that person is! You don't know why any of this is happening, but they're unwilling to bend, they keep insisting you are that person, your memories will come back, everything will be normal again, and you want to scream and cry and claw yourself open to show them you're different. Your existence as a being wholly separate from whoever you "used to be" is a sin unto itself. All you can do is scrabble for life and to them, you're killing whoever they loved to do it.
just. lots of fun in that concept, you know?
I'm not saying it's a guaranteed solution, I'm just saying we ought to at least try crossdressing if we haven't yet
It worked for me!
And it could work for you!
Ok, I did it. And the microwave door is still broken.
keep trying
youtuber who does old console ROMhacks for a hobby: i made the n64 do raytracing just to see if i could and it does five thousand FPS or something
triple-A game studio: if you're experiencing stuttering on the lowest settings, consider just not being poor? your graphics card is five months old??
guy whose mission is to defend corporations: nooooo you don't understand, it's not a fair comparison because the youtube guy is doing small-scale experiments motivated by an in-depth understanding of the hardware, while triple-A studios have a scope set by executives who don't know how it translates to work and just fired all their devs with enough experience to optimize
it's unfair to expect industry devs to do the kind of clever optimization that can be achieved by an experienced programmer who's not sleep deprived and has seen their family and friends in the last three years
canât really articulate it but i think this time period we live in where we are actively deciding to pretend we donât see obvious eating disorders and eating disorder culture because itâs a delicate topic is just so. bad. i think itâs really bad that there is obviously something rly dark going on on the wicked set and the overall conclusion is âi see it too, but shhâ

The whole âmale loneliness epidemicâ thing is so crazy because feminists have been talking for decades about how gendered socialization has many negative consequences for the psychology and personalities of men (literally what the term âtoxic masculinityâ refers to) but now weâre letting the alt-right misconstrue this âepidemicâ into something New so that they can blame feminists for it and make it about how Actually we need to Go Back to rigid heteronormative patriarchal gender norms in order to Save Men, even though thatâs exactly what was making society miserable and lonely in the first place! Itâs so screwed. Can we ever actually confront, address, and resolve societal issues like as a species or are we just doomed to misunderstand the assignment forever. Why do the dumbest most bad-faith operators in every debate get to hijack every last earnest attempt by smart and well-meaning people to improve human welfare. Why do we live on a planet of adult toddlers
It's just actually so crazy that ten years ago when the subject of birth control came up people would talk about how it's so nice to be able to take control of their bodies and how many different forms there are and how it's nice to be able to select one that works for you. To have that security and not be dependent on the honesty of a partner or random hook up or whatever. But also how many conditions it can help manage, and how it can be used to regulate pain and mood and the severity of menstrual cycles.
And now during a point where abortion is being limited and targeted and banned in some places, with talks about going after birth control next, and there's fear mongering around the declining birth rate, whenever birth control comes up people are tripping over themselves to talk about how evil it is and how the side effects are universally horrible and awful and unedurable. And it seems to go back to "actually the other person should be the one responsible for birth control" as if that's some feminist take to say "you should relinquish control and put your full trust in your partner in a time when we are losing access to abortion and there's increased fear around declining birth rates."
It's funny that "trans men will sometimes feel the societal pressure to fill the role of masculinity by leaning on misogyny and must be very aware to not do that" used to be kind of a common opinion back when I was helping run that GSA in college, and nowadays it's somehow taboo to bring up.
sorry for being annoying [remembers that practicing gratitude instead of shame is better for my mental health and my relationships] thank you for letting me be annoying with you
I donât know who else needs to hear this cause I blocked the person that does need it: thereâs no such thing as a lesser queer show, every queer show we have now has been fought for with blood, through shame and the destruction of countless careers. Thereâs no such thing as a coming out scene that is bad or unrealistic. Because it was someoneâs story; someoneâs heart and perhaps even someoneâs fantasy.
There is no such thing as a queer show that is âlesserâ no matter what its budget was, or how bad the actors were, or how strong the script was or which country it was made in (as so many of you think a show isnât good cause itâs BL from Asia)- thereâs simply no âlesserâ or âgreaterâ that can ever be part of this equation when we compare queer shows to each other

I would never suggest anyone get a job but I would like it if you took up knitting and stopped arguing in my notes.
âGet a jobâ

Uhh joke cancelled I guess
The majority of people seeking abortions (51%) reported using birth control that failed. That is affirmative non-consent to pregnancy. And consent to sex is not consent to pregnancy.
Consent to one activity with one person for a few minutes is not a binding contract to lease your body to an unwelcome third party for most of a year.
A child should never be "a consequence". All children should be wanted. "Taking accountability" doesn't have to mean "giving birth".
An abortion is way more responsible than birthing a child you're not ready for.
