scott pilgrim anime also makes a strong case for why a voice director is one of the most vital and important jobs an animated product has because. how many animated movies with celebrity voice casts recently have been brought down by shit voice direction. and yet here's scott pilgrim takes off, with a gigantic cast of celebrities, many of which have never done something like this before, being guided by a voice director that's been in the business for a really long time, giving some of the best performances of their careers. celebrity voice casts aren't inherently the problem sometimes it's just most of those times they don't bother getting a director who gives a shit about good performances

Bryan Lee O'Malley remarking that he had Scott explicitly spell out that his relationship with Knives was inappropriate in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off because he feels like a lot of the comic's readers maybe didn't pick up on that is very funny not only because how do you not, but also because the original Scott Pilgrim comics are some of the most didactic media I've ever read outside of, like, medieval Christian allegories about the wages of sin. It's just constantly explaining to the reader exactly why Scott is a bad person, sometimes with little annotated diagrams. Genuinely, what's it gonna take for the twentysomething male audience not to idolise a loser?

The white armband is actually used by NYPD to signify to the riot cops which people in the crowd are undercover cops so they don’t get shot. Apparently they change the color daily, but no one else is showing up to a protest with a fucking armband like that so

the black shoes, jeans, neutral shirt combo…

These undercovers will try and convince you to act violently/break the law just so they have an excuse to arrest you and use violence on protestors. Call them out as cops and don’t let them fool you or fellow protestors.
