Anyway Phil uploaded an unlisted video of a passionate PINOF 1 kiss to his youtube channel??? I donât believe it
who the fuck is writing this fanfic????? /lh
watching the new mukbang video reminds me of why I procrastinate on the podcast episodes: I turn into this emoji whenever I watch a dnp video and itâs fucking scary
the vintage phandom pre-grieving dnpâs heterosexual nuclear family endgame posts are so fascinating to me. here you have a bunch of young teenagers who are so, so obsessed with these two men. and many of them know/think/hope theyâre together. but if they are, itâs a secret. and you will get bullied if you talk about it. itâs also 98% of what is talked about. but it becomes the culture to talk about it like a gameâasking do you ship phan? while assuring everyone you know theyâre not really together, itâs just for fun.
but itâs teenagers weâre talking about here. so the chain of logic goes, if theyâre not togetherâwhich of course they arenât this is all just for fun guys you donât really believe theyâre gay, do you, the vday video was a prankâthen theyâre probably not gay, and are in fact straight, and will end up with women and kids and a dog and a white picket fence like oh so many unfortunate YA protagonists in epilogues (the primary books fans had read atp, lbr)
so there was a whole cottage industry built around this emotional tension of fans caring so, so much about dan and phil now (back then), but âknowingâ that it could never last because eventually they would move on to have the traditional signifiers of a happy life. youtube was seen as childish, no one knew if it was even possible for it to be sustainable for more than one, two, five years; dan and phil were of course straight so they would want to settle down with susan from the shop, and all the fun the teenagers were having was given an ambiguous, dramatic end point.
which means thereâs dozens if not hundreds of posts out there talking forebodingly about dan and phil splitting up and getting married to other people, with an awkward undertone of forced happiness about it. we would all totally be happy for them if they left youtube and got with women, because theyâd be happy, the posts all say, while writing about it as if it was a late stage cancer diagnosis

Iâm gonna fucking cry
Hello Maggie! May I humbly request more lists of things that Shane says (like the mic'd up compilation)? ONLY if you feel like it, of course! I just feel like I get to know Shane so well and I learn about hockey culture through your posts like that and I love them so much. No pressure!! ok thanks bye â¤ď¸đ - krb
Hmmm OKAY yes I think I have a few more:
- "Luca come here. Let me see. Open your fucking mouth, kid. Okay yeah, he's bleeding, tell them to give that fucker double, Ilya--"
- "Yeah so like...you eat the food with your hands. No forks. No, they give you this bread. Yeah it's good. Kind of spicy."
- "Hey buddy. Nah, not much. Jackie and the kids good? That's good. Surprised you're not part of the scrum. Yeah he told me he was gonna try to fight you tonight."
- "Ha, no, stay there. I don't wanna hear it. No, I don't want you to whisper it either. Save it for the power play."
- "Can you do this with your pinky? Yeah. Huh, maybe it's because I've broken mine. Hey, Bood, can you do this with your pinky? Huh. Chouinard--tap Chouinard--hey, try to do this--"
- "That ref fucking hates me and you know why--you fucking KNOW why--no I will not calm down!"
- "Yeah it was nice, but I don't think we'll go back. I dunno. It rained the whole time and Ilya said it made him feel homesick. No, like, for Russia. Yeah. Big sad Slavic eyes the whole time. And he's, y'know. My guy. When he's sad, I'm sad. Nah, that's not sappy, that's just marriage, man."
- "Hey, did you know that the point of hockey is actually to keep your blades on the ice? Yeah it helps. You can't go as far skating on your nose."
- "Aw shit, buddy, did he get you? Did my husband use his big stick to put you on your back? Aw man, bud, I dunno. Sounds kind of gay."
- "No, it's fine, not broken. Don't fuss. I'll tell you what I said later. No, later. Uh-huh. You get it. Eyes on the game, Rozanov."
- "Aw, fuck, he threw a blade. Oh you are not serious. Why is he crawling. COME ON, THIS IS WHAT WE LEARNED THE POWER PULLS FOR--"
- "Oh, kiss cam. You know, I asked them not to--helmet, Ilya. I said you could kiss my helme--mmm. Fine."
- "Say that again about my fucking family, motherfucker! Say that shit again! I'm not gonna let you fuckers play like that anymore!"
- "No, shh, I'm still mic'd. Wait until Sarah comes to take it. Ilya, I said no--shh, okay, it's on the right side. Careful, fuck! If you break the mic because you're too...eager...they'll never mic either of us up again."
Backrooms as an action movie
Phil seeing Clark in the security cam footage: Uh, boss? Boss? You might wanna take a look at this.
â
Dinner table scene, when Clark hears Captain Clarkâs footsteps: Shit, looks like we got a surprise guest for dinner!
Clark: Heyyyyy⌠Captain Clark, meet Mary. Mary, meet Captain Clark.
Mary: Sorry to interrupt your conversation with your buddy, but in case you havenât noticed, my hands are still tied to this dang chair?
â
Clark: This here, is what Iâve called level zero.
Bobby: Why zero? âCuz thereâs zero anything?
Kat: More like zero reason to be here.
â
Phil: So how did you discover the Backrooms?
Mary: I â wait, the Backrooms? Because what, theyâre⌠rooms⌠at the back of a storeâŚ?
Phil: Well, yes.
[beat]
Mary: Real creative name, huh?
Phil: Weâre still workshopping it.
And itâs like. Clark fails at his most pivotal moments because he is a man but he is kept from ever having the chance of succeeding because he is a black man. He is caught in the trauma cycle of memory in the backrooms not because he is uniquely a bad person but because he has lived so long under oppression heâs like âmaybe I can be okay living on the floorâ AND THATS the moment it gets him. The second he fails to save Kat is the second it all goes to hell because it shatters everything he believes about himself deep down. And itâs not at all entirely his fault and also completely his doing.
And thus Mary living is because she actually learned from the trauma instead of repeating it over and over again, something only she only had the chance to learn due to the system caring about her as a white child enough to save her. But also she routinely has her control over situations stripped away from her as well, such as the end of the movie and both when her mother imprisoned her in their home and when sheâs taken from her by force. Mary is given safety, comfortableness, but not control or agency or importance. Because while she is white she is also just a woman, a still life in someone elseâs show until sheâs deemed important enough to be rescued and put in a new sparkly cage.
They are both doomed in spite of who they are and because of it. There is no winning for them. At the end, they are still consumed by the systems in which they dedicated themselves, whether that be the backrooms itself or the medical field or greater kinds of oppression.
âAnd the best part, is that you can eat them!â
hi weâre a24 and we loved the ytp you posted when you were 15. do you want to direct the multimillion dollar adaptation of your opus, simpsons gone purple?
Calling Kane Parsons' Backrooms an 'adaptation of a 4chan post' is so wildly insane given that the movie has virtually nothing to do with the original post whatsoever other than it serving as vague inspiration. Like atleast half of the negative reviews it gets is because it isn't the 'real backrooms' that the internet made up and that Kane is sticking to his story and his vision and not adding in 'Level 666: the spooky level!' Or some lame shit some random wiki cooked up
They did not turn a 4chan post into a movie, they turned a hugely popular internet webseries into a movie and it did crazy at the box office
Its also very much arthouse, not only is it subversive as a film, taking an internet web series and turning into a full scale production, but it also subverted the industry by giving a 20 year old a theatrical release (something that filmbros are still refusing that he actually did, and are insisting that theres a real, older, proper director behind the scenes because no way a 20 year old could direct a movie, apparently)
Like i get it, its the internet people are going to be reductive to the point of absurdism but this is just wrong đđ you're acting like James Wan was scrolling 4chan, saw a post, and took it to Blumhouse, this was a multi-year endeavour backed by precedent, and is an insanely impressive movie from a production POV, with a hugely talented individual manning it from day 1 with a clear vision and story he wants to tell.
No real comment on either of these posts but: the Backrooms is 21st century online mythology at this point and therefore I think itâs more useful to consider it as a premise with countless metaphorical potential â which the film did

Me the first half of The Backrooms: "oh I get it. He's a down on his luck failed architect and even more failed furniture store owner who's trying to better himself. He'll probably be fascinated with the furniture/architecture of the backrooms and start selling the items there for money + notoriety. And eventually he'll go deeper and deeper to get more and more items until he gets trapped and encounters The Horrors. A classic tale of hubris :) "
Me the second half of the backrooms:
One of the many side effects of getting into Heated Rivalry from fanfiction and not reading the books is that in my head, Troy Barrett has blonde or light brown hair. Apparently he canonically has dark hair but I just canât see it. Maybe itâs because I picture Troy Bolton whenever the name âTroyâ appears.
Also all the letters in the name âTroyâ appear in the name âTaylor,â so I kinda headcanon that Troy Barrett is a Swiftie too
Happy birthday to Shane Hollander, one of the reasons why I got into Heated Rivalry (fanfiction)
nearly doxxing themselves, toilet POV, and phil on all fours getting his ass massaged in 4k
I love these twinks

Maybe I *should* watch Heated Rivalry for real, only because itâs harder to explain that you read the fanfiction voraciously but have never touched any of the âcanonâ material
